Lone caregiver: looking to talk about cats, books, music, food, more..

Posted by bigmaya @bigmaya, May 2, 2023

Hello,
I'm a member with the caregivers but would like to hopefully find a couple of people to talk to about cats, books, music, food - most everything under the sun. Thanks🙏🪻

Not too long ago I finished a months long stretch where I read every day. Cozy mysteries, ROM COMS, historical mysteries. Suddenly I couldn't read a paragraph much less a whole book.
Not to worry, this has happened before and I need to work on it - usually start with a Diary of a Wimpy Kid book and that puts me back on track.
In the meantime I pick a topic I want to know more about then read pert articles or research papers pertaining to the subject.
I'm rattling on. What do you like to read?

Hello teabags, good morning from my neck of the woods😸

Both my husband and l are actually full time readers but for weeks now we haven't been able to touch a book.
Usually l love Scan crime books, ocasonally a good novel but mostly non-fiction, biography, history, some politics...
There are - though unfortunally very few - authors that can make even a phone book a fantastic read. I've been giving a Beethoven bio a try for weeks now but l can't concentrate... it's not the author, it's me...💐🙏

Haha! I love that! “You’re a nobody until you’ve been ignored by a cat.”

While I grew up with a longtime dog, my husband and I opted for cats almost our whole married life (almost 38 years now.) Ironically, we ended up with3 sets of cats where they were true brother and sister, and the male was always orange, and the female was always black, with a little white. We named one of the males “Edward” and all he needed was to eat, and sit upright in a chair! Haha 😂. He passed away by his food bowl.

Edward The Cat, may he r.i.p, had a royal passing... just like king Farouk from Egypt... he loved to eat and landed with his face in his plate during a meal...😸😼

@bigmaya -- What do you want to discuss about cats. I love cats (all kinds, even "big cats," but don't have one right now. Do you have a cat? or more than 1? I can only imagine how difficult it is to be a "caregiver," even of your beloved husband. There is no life preparation for this job, unless you had a career as a nurse. Even a doctor is not a caregiver, as such.

Hello Jshdma,
We are owned by 27 cats, almost all neutered and spayed, without counting those coming to our garden buffet😸 to have a bite, drink and some rest. We love them all to pieces - well, most of the time... We started with one and it just so happened... l do LOVE the big ones, l think they are all beautiful creatures, wish l could cuddle one of those cubs.
Other than that, you're right, life doesn't prepare us for times like these or at least western cultures mostly don't, l wish it were different. We can talk about cats or most everything else.... Best to you😸🪻

@bigmaya 27 cats??? How do you keep track? Does each one have a name? They are all lucky you are there to provide a cat refuge. Are you in a cold climate? That makes a big difference for outdoor cats. We are catless right now, but in the past we have had 1 and later 2. After losing our last cat we didn't get another. It gets complicated because we always travel a lot, mostly for work. Of course the epidemic interrupted all that. Now we are a bit out of the habit. Maybe it's time to adopt a new cat. I hope to write often but I am very busy. I am a writer with frequent deadlines, which keep me busy. Sending love and prayers. J

I would be in Heaven with 27 cats! Had felines all my life and love them. I am down to two, both like me, getting old, so we are aging together - them more gracefully than me!
They are indoor kitties so I feed the squirrels and birds in yard. One is a second generation albino squirrel. When I go outdoors to throw peanuts he will sit-up and wait for them to fall! Have you read The Choice and The Gift by Dr. Edith Eger? Recommend both - have a great day!

Hello Baa,
Thanks for the book tip. I'll look into it, though as i mentioned, l can't find the peace of mind to read more than headlines these days... And l've reached a point where l can't find comfort in anything. AS for the cats, l love them as does my husband and we try to give them the best them humans can offer cats😸 We always joke about who knows what they think of us and what they'd say if they could...
