Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.

Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.

Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!

I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

Who’s got a great recipe that takes 5 minutes, doesn’t have a lot of ingredients, little clean up, can’t be fried, I’m getting tired of cereal and sandwiches any ideas???

@debbraw Glad you started this thread I have a quick healthy recipe Haluski it's a Polish dish but good I'm not Polish but like it Get a firm cabbage cut of a good Slice cut up in chunks 1 pot Boil some noodles and cabbage together till edible drain water put back in pot add butter till melts salt to taste put on plate enjoy

@jakedduck1 Do you like yogurt? I start with non-fat Greek yogurt (Chobani is good), add some low carb granola, and some fresh fruit — preferably berries — and there you have it! It's delish. I seem to have developed a lactose intolerance so I am now using a lactose-free yogurt that I can purchase at Whole Foods but it is low-fat, not non-fat, and it does not have the protein that is in Greek yogurt.

I can gag it down but it’s hardly a meal or a favorite.
I wonder if they have berries all ready to just dump in without added sugar or sodium.

@jakedduck1 I like blueberries to eat as a snack right like they are any berries just pop them in your mouth

Now that’s an idea more to my liking but not to filling. Guess I’m asking for the impossible. I use to cook every day, guess I regained my sanity since then.

@jakedduck1 The Haluski is simple to make if you like cabbage simpler yet buy a bag of shredded up cabbage cook with noodles

What I like I can’t have. I’ve been eating salad the last couple days but thankfully it’s gone. I like meat and potatoes like beef, pork, poultry, lamb chops, lasagna (not much cheese allowed and nothing canned packaged or frozen) and beans, lentils, stuffed bell peppers. It’s stressful just thinking about cooking, I can’t even think of all the things I like. I’m supposed to eat lots of yucky fresh veggies. If I get the courage I’d like to stuff a green red yellow orange white & blue bell pepper but that would be quite an intense project. Ya know, life’s funny, back in the day when I had a feeding tube which I hated from what I’m told, I liked to cook, now I might really like it. I’ll probably have a tuna sandwich for dinner, oh wow I’m so excited!!! Some Fritos would be good but not allowed. Basically I’m suppose to eat what I consider garbage. Anything I’m allowed usually has to be cooked so you know where that leaves me. Been having cereal dry since I ran out of milk. Oh the agony of it all.

@jakedduck1 Sorry you can't enjoy the foods you like but if you are dick of cooked vegies try raw I love raw zucchini ,cukes Can you eat Rice? If so cook rice and veggies and teriyaki sauce

@jakedduck1 I buy fresh berries, generally either blueberries or strawberries and wash them — no sugar or sodium. They keep much longer without getting mold on them if you give them a white vinegar bath — vinegar and water — and then rinse them well. The vinegar kills any spores that might be on them. You can use frozen berries too but I would take the amount you want out of the freezer the night before to thaw so they aren't overly cold. When you add the berries and some granola — check the carbs of the granola — it really does taste good. I always buy granolas that have fewer than 20 gm of carbs per serving. Depending on the brand a serving is usually either a 1/4 cup or 1/3 cup. Some of them are much, much higher than that.

@jakedduck1 Jake, you may have said before what causes your food restrictions, but if you did I forget. Do you mind telling that?
Vegetables take on a whole better taste when you roast them. Last night we had baked haddock for dinner and I made roasted Brussels sprouts and parsnips for dinner. Even my husband enjoyed it, and it was easy. Just trim the outer leaves from the sprouts and cut them in half or quarters depending on their size, peel and cut the parsnips, toss in a bit of EVOO, and roast. Yum. Brussels Sprouts got a bad name when people just boiled them. My kids both love them.

@JAke- go out and buy prepared meals form your grocery store. You will make yourself sick and wind up in trouble if you don't eat a balanced diet.

Good idea ! With everything going on and for me my taste changed so I am not enjoying good . I get nauseous everyday and I know if I don’t put something in I won’t be able to take my meds . So I work on not losing weight and if I am not getting much , that it is healthy and easy . The only foods that seem to taste like they should is fruit . So when I eat it’s for what I need . Could use some reminders of easy and getting nutrients I need .

Thanks Merry but prepared foods not allowed either. I’d like to go out for a glorious steak dinner with a monster baked potato with globs of butter, sour cream, chives and cheese also some asparagus smothered in cheese sauce and a Dr Pepper. Then stop by the cheesecake kitchen for dessert. It’s been over a year since I’ve gone out for a decent meal. After all it is my birthday. But my doctor would squawk big time. Oh well, the fantasy was nice while it lasted.
