Clinical Trials in Transplant

Posted by Kristin Eggebraaten @keggebraaten, Dec 21, 2021

Hi all, I wanted to start a discussion thread regarding clinical trials.

Mayo Clinic (and other hospitals) often have clinical trials that would be of interest to the transplant population. I thought we could all use this discussion to post about them. Please be sure to include a link to the trial information so anyone wanting to share the trial with their family or care team can easily do so. Thanks!

An interesting clinical trial available right now to patients seeking a living donor kidney transplant - the Freedom-1 Trial. In this trial, investigators are using an investigational cell therapy to prevent rejection. The outcome of this study could be elimination of immunosuppressive drugs for kidney transplant patients. I am certain all of you would welcome this news with open arms once this becomes standard of practice. I have attached the flyer - which also contains a link - for more information. Currently we are enrolling for this trial at Mayo Clinic in Arizona and Minnesota.

I have cirrhosis of the liver and hepatocellular carcinomas that are at this point well treated. I would like information on clinical trials for liver transplant as they did the kidney transplant.

@digibson Thanks for the comment. We will be posting about trials periodically, but you can also check on clinicaltrials.gov for more information. This search (https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/results?cond=Liver+Cancer&term=liver+cirrhosis&cntry=US&state=&city=&dist=) is one I did for clinical trials with the search terms of "liver cancer" and "liver cirrhosis." On this page (https://clinicaltrials.gov/) you can add any search parameters you wish, including the city/state of your provider to find trials at your own transplant center. Thanks!

Here is a new video that explains the Freedom-1 clinical trial from my post above. Feel free to share with others!

Thank you Kristin. That is a dynamite website but I'll have to spend some time wading through it. Diane
