Placed on hold for Kidney transplant due to Blood transfusion

Wondering if anyone has experience being placed on inactive list due to blood transfusion? My anemia was low back in late March and mid-April, I required blood transfusion with each hospital stay. Just curious how long before I can be relisted or what the procedure is. Thank you.

I am uncertain about the process with a blood transfusion. That said, when I had both shoulder surgery and after one 'live vaccine', I too was placed on the inactive list. While inactive, I continued to accrue time and was reactivated as soon as my surgeon released me to normal activities. After the vaccine, I was inactive for a 30-day period. I never had to relist, just notify the transplant hospital(s) at the appropriate time and provide the surgeon's note.

I’m not understanding why they would put you on hold because of a transfusion, I am over 3 years post from a liver transplant and I easily had over 40 of them one time I was 4 pints low and was given 4 immediately . I wasn’t even on any list till the very last couple of months because I was near death, I assume they are just cautious with your case mine was 911 for 7 months good luck with with your transplant just be patient

@mariad1958, I hope you saw the helpful replies from @michael219 and @pgruetz.

Maria, you're asking good questions. Were you able to contact the transplant social worker to get an explanation specific to your situation?

Hello,
I would guess that it has something to do with the antibody test that can change if you receive a live vaccine or transfusion, I do not know your specific situation. But I guess would guess they need to wait a certain amount of time and then test your antibody levels again.

I was placed on the transplant list, then removed when my kidney gfr went above 20%. Then reactivated when gfr went back below. And received a kidney transplant that year.

It is an anxious time. I recommend you contact your Transplant Cordinator and get a better understanding of what the plan is for you. Knowledge is power.
