Inpatient help for self injury

Posted by Anonymous-f6246422 in Mental Health, Jun 8, 2013

I have a long history of self injurious behavior (cutting, hitting myself, picking off my skin, trying to choke myself). I'm diagnosed with major depression, anxiety, bipolar & personality disorders. I don't cope well & when I get anxious or nervous I hurt myself. I'm on quite a lot of medication. Does anyone know if Mayo Clinic has a program for this?

I don't know much about what programs the mayo clinic has but I'm sure they will let you know if you contact them directly. I would like to offer you my support and understanding. I too hurt my self a lot. I apparently bang my head on walls and what ever else is available, I also hit walls. I've been diagnosed with bi-polar, schizoid personality with a fragile ego (whatever that means) maybe between the two of us we can find a way out of this. So give me a chat and let's see if we can get a handle on this behavior.

I'm from Ohio & I've been hospitalized before for this. I'm really having a hard time right now, esp. after losing my mom in dec. Can't accept that she's gone but no one nos how I really feel inside. Kramer I no exactly how you feel there are knives in this house & it takes a lot to not sneak one but I live in a group home so there's staff here 24/7. Just having a hard time right now.

Hi Teri15 So sorry that your having a hard time at the moment. Give yourself the time to grief for your Mum it takes a while to go through the processes of grief. I know that its hard and you feel so lost inside I felt the same as you when my dear dad passed away. Try to remember all the wonderful times and memories that you will treasure and hold in your heart forever. Take care always here anytime Piglit

Sorry it has taken so long to reply, my room is in disarray, and I just know got the com, hooked up again. I remember loosing my mom. I was 19 with a 13month old, I had only been out of the house for three months. Loosing you mom I think ,ay be one of the hardest things we go through. I'm glad that you are in a safe place, even if you may not think so. my daughter ended up bouncing around foster homes, if you want I can ask her for knowledge or have her write you using my page.I think she may be able to help. but it is intirely up to you. you write me anytime you need to talk. Seriously.....I am here for you and I'm sure others here feel the same.

You know kramer we all have to try to rely on the positives around us. You have one a great one and that is that you get up and go to work everyday. That means that you have the incentive to actually go which means you are helping yourself by doing so. I'm proud of you for this, you are trying and your not alone as each day you are out and about. Take care piglet

It appears that the medications may not be working nor the treatment. Have you been diagnosed with a personality disorder? If so request DBT which helps with emotion regulation so that you do not get to the point where you are hurting yourself in anyway. The last thing that we should be doing is inflicting self pain. The world can already do this so it's so important to love yourself no matter what and be the last person to hurt YOU.
