Mirtazapine made me worse. I want to quit.
Mirtazapine was prescribed about 10 days ago for anxiety. I think it made me worse. It didn’t help with my insomnia or lack of appetite. It caused suicidal thoughts. It has caused excessive thirst, dry mouth. I think it caused bladder retention which led to flooding incontinence. Just in that first week. I went to ER on Sunday afraid of the symptoms especially excessive thirst since I was already told I was low sodium (131). I also had really high blood pressure. Doc said I’d be fine and just quit the drug but contact your doctor. (He’s out of town.) So I read you should taper off. I’m doing a fast taper….What are your experiences? Thanks.

I took it for 4 months and just stopped without incidence. It did nothing for me.

2 ReactionsI started Mirtazapine about 6 months ago at 7.5 mg for about a month, then 15 for several months, and now taking 30 mg. I have not had any bad side effects. I don't know how much your doctor started you on. I would see him 1st. If you are on a low dose you probably don't need to taper. Initial bad side effects are supposed to go away after a few weeks. If you are miserable, see your doctor.

1 ReactionI sympathize with what you’re going through, I’m just turning the corner getting off another anti depressant and it was really rough. I took Mirtazapine for a few months starting on 7.5 mg., the side effects were awful and began very quickly, nightmares when I could sleep, anxiety and leg pain or RLS , the only benefit was a hardy appetite. My previous doctor prescribed them and then disappeared for two months so I had to find help with them and what to do, I eventually just got off them slowly and then I stopped without any further trouble. They had some good reviews but it’s a different experience for everyone, too bad they haven’t found a drug that works well for everyone, maybe one day who knows.
