Lung nodules discovered on xray
I was in the hospital 2 months ago for a fractured back caused by a car accident. A xray showed I have a 17 mm pulmonary nodule in my posterior costophrenic sulcus in the right lower lobe of my lung. Nodule is slightly lobulated and completely soft tissue. Doctors were concerned because the nodule was not present in February and grew so quickly in that short of time ( 7 months). I underwent a lung biopsy that was inconclusive and showed tissue sample was "necrotic." I saw a pulmonary physician this morning who ordered a PET scan to hopefully gather more information. He said that if the nodule "lights up or has FDG activity I will need a lung resection" and if it doesnt " light" up they will monitor it by cat scans. I am very afraid I may have cancer. I am overwhelmed because we do not know what the nodule really is. Can anyone give me information, ideas, or opinions about my lung nodule ? Can a lung biopsy be inconclusive and "necrotic" if its cancer ? Any info, ideas or opinions would be greatlty appreciated..good or bad ! Thank you for your help !
