Aortic Ascending Aneurism - Share Growth Rate
Hello Everyone, I look for any thread that talk about Aortic Ascending Aneurism with Bicuspid valve and its growth rate. I got diagnose by accident for Aortic Ascending Aneurism of 4.5CM at the age of 50 and have bicuspid valve as well. My next CT scan is in June 2024.
If anyone in the same boat or diagnosis, can you please share your experience with growth rate of this Aorta over time with bicuspid valve?
I will appreciate your input and help. Thank you.

So now after 20 plus years after my heart ablation for AFIB, I was in AFIB last weekend and felt like crap. The VA out of Sioux Falls put a monitor on me until 5 Mar.
Did not know about AFIB until after my Aorta surgery, the Mayo Clinic put me on medication for this and also the Veterans Administration have been watching it as well.
M 48yo - I was diagnosed with an ascending aneurysm in mid-2019 that was 4.2-4.3. My last scan in December 2023 showed around 4.5, which seems to be (unfortunately - I was hoping I'd be one of the people with the ones that don't grow) a "regular" rate of progression. I guess I'm looking at a surgery in 3-5 years, because my doctor says he doesn't want it to go past 5.0.
Good luck!

1 ReactionI also have this going on. Last year only had an Ultrasound as insurance wouldn’t cover an mri. I have one scheduled for May this year. Very concerned as I also have non ischemic cardiomyopathy.

2 ReactionsMine was 3.9 cm in 2020. Went to 4.4 in 2021 4.6 in 2022 and been holding steady at 4.6 since. Get it checked once a year now to make sure it stays below 5.5

Suggest you confirm with your cardiologist the percentage change in the aneurysm size to cause concern. I believe my cardiologist said it was any increase of 0.3%, but not sure. Also the American Heart Association has changed their guidelines for when surgery should be considered from 5.5cm for women to 5.0cm. Good luck!

1 Reaction@kevincurtin ...Are you doing anything special to help keep it under control?
Mine jumped in one year from 4.7 to. 5.5...have now decreased my gym workout to avoid spikes in BP.
@melcarey260846 - When I was first diagnosed my cardiologist put me on metropylol and told me to avoid heavy lifting - other than that I am not doing anything differently

Suggest you check with the American Heart Association website re size of aneurysm guidelines.
They recently changed it for women from 5.5 cm to 5.0 cm for surgery.
I don't know if they changed it for men.

1 Reaction@kevincurtin Hope it holds steady for you....guess it will grow more slowly all being well.
@ewei6911 Surgery depends on underlying conditions some people have it earlier than 5.0 but my Cardiologist said 5.5 cm as the baseline
