Aortic Ascending Aneurism - Share Growth Rate

Posted by Fighter @niravani, Jan 10 1:04pm

Hello Everyone, I look for any thread that talk about Aortic Ascending Aneurism with Bicuspid valve and its growth rate. I got diagnose by accident for Aortic Ascending Aneurism of 4.5CM at the age of 50 and have bicuspid valve as well. My next CT scan is in June 2024.

If anyone in the same boat or diagnosis, can you please share your experience with growth rate of this Aorta over time with bicuspid valve?

I will appreciate your input and help. Thank you.

My family member 4.0 in 2020.. 4.3 in 2023.. remember each person will be different pending on whether they drink, smoke or lift heavy things etc. Best to get a baseline and have it checked every 6 or 12 months. I was just diagnosed 4.2.. will go for a 6 month check up...for cardiac mri April 2024. I have been adjusting my activities and trying to learn as much as possible of what I should and should not be doing. Best to you!!!

Glad I have found this group. Mine was also found while following afib cryoablation and low left ventricle ejection fraction with echocardiogram and zio patch every 6 months. April 2023 ascending aorta was 3.1 cm, October echo and follow up ct scan was 3.8 cm. My research and Doctors tell me that is small but I worry about the quick enlargement. Next echo is to be done in March. In the mean time I trying to stay calm and looking for future options in California. I appreciate the information I'm getting from you all!

Thank you for responding. I appreciate it. Since I just got diagnosed with 4.5CM aneurysm and with bicuspid valve…wasn’t sure as if I have 1 year or 10 years before surgery must be done.

Good luck to us all.

Yes, ECO and CT seems to show different results for the size of Aorta. My CT showed 4.5cm where eco showed 4.2cm.
My cardiologist suggest that CT is the gold standard for this measurement.
Your seems low and may not even called aneurysm but more like dilated.

Not all aneurysms are ticking time bombs. I asked my cardiovascular surgeon recently and he said that “I’ve been monitoring your aneurysm for six years and it was 1.7 cm then and it’s still 1.7 cm today “
"The only difference is I’ve been told in your hospital chart that it was torn”.
He said he didn’t see any tears so “I don’t know why they sent you to another hospital for emergency surgery “ As far as I can tell I didn’t see a tear in it and it’s still at 1.7. Case closed I say. I wasn’t a living time bomb and I didn’t know the size of it so I was correct in having questions. My mind was put at ease so if you are told you have one it hurts nobody to ask what the size is whether it’s small or over 5 cm. I have the right as a patient to request the size.
It will probably never grow any longer than 1.7 and now I feel less concerned.
It’s ok to advocate for yourself. I do it all the time with all my doctors and none seem to mind answering my questions.
Am I a walking time bomb? No. But at least I know now.

1.7 ? Man your fine , I'd be doing cartwheels lol
A doctor on Just answers said , Put it on the back burner and know when it reaches 5.5 they'll be calling to fix it
There was some girl that had the surgery that said "worrying about it was worse then the surgery"
I think that's true .

I feel what your saying!
I have a decending dissection that has 3 aneurysms in various sizes up to 3.9. I have an aneurysm in each vertebral artery. (To tortuous to fix)

any of these could go at any time! I already had a type A and B Dissection, I was lucky to survive that.

I don't understand one thing, when did it change from 5 to 5.5? I have always been told 5. I guess everything changes, right.

If you don't have one already you should try to do something each day that totally needs your mind or your hands, I find that drawing and painting are my favorites. I've just started and it really helps.

All the best

It hasn't changed yet Nov 23 it was 5.0
New scan in June 24 , i'm guessing it will be 5.2
I'm a singer -songwriter , So I stay involved on that
Painting whatever it takes to steer out minds away from it
The nurse said we don't know if you'll need surgery , Makes no sense , I will eventually , logically speaking if its at 5.0 now
They probably say that on some protocol , who knows . Tick
Tick Tick , oh boy like a Talban suicide bomber and 72 virgins ,

Hi
I have a sending aortic aneurysm as well. 4.1
My docs say they won’t let it go past a 5. So make sure you have that watched.
I will opt for surgery as I just had a brain aneurysm and now this. So they are watching me. Get opinions always is safe.
