Switching to Trintellix or Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)

Posted by elwooodsdad @elwooodsdad, Dec 31, 2018

I have switched from duloxetine to trintillix about 21/2 months ago, and am not adjusting well. Sleep deprivation, mood swings, deeper depression, suicidal thoughts, etc. I’m to see my doctor on 1/2/19, and think switching back to duloxetine would be appropriate. Anyone else with trintillix experience?

@marjou, I'm wondering if you ended up trying Trintellix? I have been on Prozac for over 15 years, and it stopped working for me about a year ago. I've been on almost every other psych medication (it feels like, anyhow). My psychiatrist recommended Trintellix awhile back. I'm considering trying it. How are you doing now? Have you tried anything to augment your Prozac (or did you try another medication)?

@kelster69 Did not try Trintellix because of side effects and cost. Am very sensitive to meds and financial constraints. Not on Prozac and have tried a long list of meds which have not worked for me. Good luck to you.

Thanks for getting back to me, @marjou. I am very sorry to hear that no meds have worked for you. Have you considered TMS? Just curious, as that, too has been suggested to me. All the best to you too.

You might look at early posts of mine…Trintellix did me no favors. It was a simply horrible experience for me, but I understand when it works, it works well. My reaction was debilitating, and the cost was dear, but manageable had it worked. Best regards.

@kelster69 You might look at @elwoodsdad April post on her experience with Trintellix.

Elwoodsdad says be very careful. My experience was not good, expensive, and made day to day living very difficult…My psychiatrist tapered me off Trintellix, and put me on Prozac, an old reliable. Things are good. I have dysthymia, so I always have varying degrees of depression and anxiety playing in the background, but life is much better. Now, this COVID-19 needs to be dealt with…Absolutely bizarre. Trintellix works well when it works. When it doesn’t, not such a good experience.

Marjou, I apologize for the delayed response. TMS is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, where a coil is hooked up to the part of your brain that controls mood. I started it just this week. It's a 5-week commitment. I have no idea if it's working yet.

Hello to elwoodsdad, as well as the entire community here. I did end up trying Trintellix the day after I wrote my previous post. I was on 5 mg. for 3 weeks, and have been on 20 mg. for 1 1/2 weeks. I sometimes feel a bit better, but still have bad depressive bouts. I want to stop taking it, but I am so impulsive, I am trying to wait until I speak with my psychiatrist in 6 days before I make a decision. I feel like it should have helped me by now. It's so hard to tolerate these depressive, suicidal feelings (I had them before I started the Trintellix, also.)
I also started TMS this week as well as 2 ketamine infusions. So if I do ever feel better, I don't know which method will have worked. The Trintellix causes nausea for sure; I finally tolerated the 5mg but now on 10 mg. I have to take Zofran every morning with the 10 mg pills. I also have had some skin rash but not too bad. I just don't know what to do anymore. I don't know if the Trintellix is making things worse, when my other therapies could be working, or if I'd be even more suicidal off of it. If anyone has anything to add, it'd be much appreciated. I don't see anything positive about Trintellix on this thread. That probably tells me something.

@kelster69 Thanks for getting back to me. Years back I had heard of TMS but very cost prohibitive for me $10,000/per treatment and not covered by insurance. Ketamine has been suggested but long distance, cost, side effects, and insurance issues not viable solution for me. Best of luck to you.
