Narcissism and the ability to change

Hi, my name is Heidi and there are people who say I am a narcissist. I had never heard of the term before prior to being called one. But if I am a narcissist, I don't want to be. Nor, do I want to hurt the people around me. Also, would I know that I am a narcissist? I would really appreciate any response or input. Thank you!

@heidikcamara1203191 You are bringing up a very good question. I applaud you for wanting to look at yourself and to better yourself. The fact that you don't want to hurt others around you tells me that you have empathy and are willing to put other people's feelings above your own. That is a good quality, and it is also something that a true narcissist can take advantage of because the narcissist wants to be the most important.

I would like to share a You Tube page for a licensed clinical psychologist who has a lot of informational videos discussing narcissists. I am not sharing her videos because she expressed that she did not want her videos shared to confront a narcissist. In one of her videos she advises against confronting a narcissist because it would likely result in harassment directed toward the person who said it.

All we can do is better ourselves and do our best to respect other people. It does help to speak with a psychologist on things that cause stress in your life, and they can help you understand how a bully may be reacting out of their own fear.

My psychologist shared a video that was an interview on "Women of Impact" of Dr. Ramani that was helpful to me. You can search You Tube for "Dr. Ramani on Women of Impact" and can probably find it.

Here is another presentation she did on a TED talk.

You’re a brave person and if you were a true narcissist you wouldn’t have written in to ask your question. I’m certain you can find an explanation of this online for your benefit. You could most likely easily find someone to speak with on the phone, a mental health counselor or social worker, etc. to ascertain if you need any assistance. Good luck.
