As you have all posted in Mayo Connect's Mental Health Group, I wanted to invite you to join in a program by Dr. Amit Sood, entitled Happiness a One Week Journey. Probably many of you are familiar with Dr. Amit Sood, a psychiatrist at Mayo. This is a free online program that addresses the issue of happiness. Here is what Dr. Sood says about this program.

Dear friends,

You and I face one common enemy – suffering. Pain, physical or emotional, when it becomes unbearable, is experienced as suffering. Pain is unavoidable, but suffering is optional. My goal is to help you find a path so you can bypass suffering in this life. One reward of traversing that journey is finding greater happiness.

Happiness is a habit. Some of us are innately happy. But most others have to choose. We often, however, don’t realize we have that choice. We also don’t know how to exercise that choice. As a result, we push happiness away. Let that not happen to you.

Join me, if you wish, to spend the next week of your life, choosing greater happiness. Each day, you’ll be guided to a practice that can make you happier. To enroll, you’ll need to register with your name and email address to connect with us for the next week. Select ‘Happiness: A One Week Journey,’ below for more information.

Take care.
Amit

Dottie, you're doing the right thing to see your doctor. I'm going through the same thing -- the house, etc. yet I'm always busy doing things around here but feel like I'm in quicksand. Good luck and stick to your guns with the doc. I'm in the process of changing my psych. as he just doesn't listen to me. My meds aren't working.

Hi: sorry to hear that your meds aren't working, I feel the same , and trying to find the right doc. is a pain, you need one that listens and who gives you hope and you feel good after you leave his office. Don't let the quicksand get the best of you, Have you tried meditation? I sometimes go into a dark room and think about what has me down, and I usually come out feeling better, good luck and contact me anytime.Dottie

It is good Saturday morning! Happy Ramadan! Happiness a One Week Journey is what leading us to here. I see happiness determined in general guidelines and developed through communications with others. Each group whatever that group small or big, professional or unprofessional is determining the type of happiness that create satisfaction of their needs. And as people are different in their cultures and languages, so listening and changing become the best part in happiness. Words in summary could be “communicate with others by empowering the main goals that end up in sending good messages and effective understanding”.

@hope33250, Teresa, i missed it. Ive been on Facebook, and other places, trying to advocate for animals. Its a subject near and dear to my heart. Once a year on June 21, a province in China gathers up as many dogs and cats as they can. They are put in cages, tortured, killed, and eaten. They say that the fear and torture makes the meat more tender. Thousands of people have tried to put a stop to it, but this horrible pastime may be too finely ingrained. Im told we have caused a temporary ban, but i wont hold my breath.

The last couple of days have been pretty hard for me. No special reason for me, unless its the death of my first husband and my kids devastation. My daughter cant forgive her aunts and uncles for not calling her. And im just po'd at Stan for once again not doing the right thing where his kids are concerned. Plus, he left no life insurance policy. Just punctuates his lack of regard for them, and they needed the money so bad.

Also, my daughter told me that sometimes she hates me. How would you react to that? I cried silently.

Teresa, i hope everyone is safe and well, and i will talk again later.
Love to all, Diane

@danybegood1 Hi Diane, it is good to hear from you. I'm sorry to hear that your children are having such difficulty with their father's death. While your daughter's words must hurt you terribly, perhaps it is a grief reaction. You might give her some time to process her grief and stay strong, I know that you want the best for your children and it is hard to see them so hurt. Best wishes to you and keep in touch. Teresa

@misdeejon42

Dottie,

I have a service dog, a McNabb. Last February, my previous service dog had a stroke or some other brain event. I still mourn his sudden death. A month later, we stopped at the local animal shelter, not expecting to find a new partner, but as soon as I saw Sadie, I felt a connection with her, and I took her home. She came with issues, but she's made a lot of progress. If I go outside, she does, too. If I'm in the house, she wants to be inside with me. She's a very sweet, smart dog.

I'm 66, and in June, we'll celebrate our 45th anniversary. Our son and daughter are both married, and our son has a 4 year old daughter. Our daughter just had a baby girl 2 months ago. He lives in Indianapolis, and she lives in New Hampshire, but in July, her Coast Guard husband will be transferred to Alameda, CA, much closer to us.

It's time to do the supper cleanup, so I need to quit writing. It's so nice that the weather has warmed up so we can eat supper on the deck.

Jim

So far, I've just done a week long trial, which gave me great pain relief. Everything having to do with the stimulator has taken way longer than I expected. I thought I'd have it soon after the first of the year. While I wait, I just have to endure the pain. I'm hoping to have the implant sometime in June.
