Just approved: Evusheld for the pre-exposure prevention of COVID-19

Posted by lizzy102 @lizzy102, Dec 10, 2021

Does anyone have any more information on this just-approved by the FDA treatment for immunocompromised people? From what I am reading, it seems very exciting. Boy, what I wouldn’t give for a bit of protection from the scourge virus!

Weighing whether to get Evusheld shots if/when available from my transplant center lottery. Have all the Covid19 shots and boosters. Got a mild version of Covid while on a trip to France and am slowly recovering. Advised my transplant coordinator that I am positive. So that's in the file. Is anyone else in the same predicament? Does anyone have any advice on reactions to the Evusheld drugs?

I have not been to France, and have not had Covid19. I got Evusheld in May during my annual eval at Mayo Rochester. I did not have any reaction or even any injection site discomfort. There is a 60 minute observation period to be sure there are no reactions. I felt safe because it is given in a clinical setting so that any immediate reactions could be addressed on site. The nurse that gave me my injections said she had not seen any reactions so far to patients she has injected.
I got my 2nd booster after a 2 week waiting period.
During the screening they ask about any recent covid19 contact or positive test result. if you are you still testing positive you might not be able to get it.
Sending positive thoughts.

I got my Evusheld shots about 3 weeks ago. I’ve never had Covid (yet) but was told one can safely receive Evusheld two weeks or more post booster or post negative Covid test if you had Covid. It may be coincidental but I had some GI issues for about a week post Evusheld- diarrhea and nausea. My doctors can’t say if Evusheld led to my symptoms as it’s so new and experimental (emergency use only). But they have to chart it and send to FDA. I’m in an airport now and am feeling more calm about getting infected.

One thing- when you get your infusion, you wait in the testing area for an hour so they can monitor you for any signs of an allergic reaction. I felt very safe.

Hello Rosemary

On reading your reply - Seems to be that you have taken both the Evusheld as wells as the 5th shot (2nd booster)

If true, did you take the 2nd booster after the Evusheld, if answer is yes.. Can you share the logic behind that.

Thanks

It was all about the timing! I was due for 2nd booster when I got the notice from Mayo about my eligibility for Evusheld. And - I was also scheduled to be at Mayo Rochester for my annual checkup. So I chose to get the Evusheld at Mayo and that is why I had to delay my booster for the 2 weeks I mentioned.
Yes, I’ve had the 3 primary doses and the 2 boosters plus Evusheld.
I continue to mask.

Let us know what you find out.
I asked my PCP, last week, about the possibility of getting a 2 Evusheld treatment (if needed) locally. He was not at all familiar with the Evusheld and said he would do whatever he needed to do so that I could get it here if/when that should occur.

Thanks Rosemary, I have a conundrum: Due for 5th shot but since 5th does not cover B5 variants should I take Evusheld instead as it covers B4 & 5 variants or wait for bivalent vaccine.

So far my covid AB count has been good (but no protection against B5 variant, Today I went for the Total AB test, let's see what the AB level is ... ( i am a bit worried & not sure what is the right direction for me)

This Wednesday I have an overall testing for coming 3 year anniversary, lets see how my WBC & Lymphocytes look like.

All the data will be presented to the Transplant nephro... for a good decision. Will keep you posted..

No reactions at all. See if you have antibodies. You might. Then you are ok.

Still no reliable, widely available test to determine the actual level of antibodies patients have, as far as I can tell. Been following Johns Hopkins University research studies on solid organ transplants and the level of protection is not very high. They are still recommending masking, distancing etc. Not sure where Evusheld puts you on this continuum. Here's a link to JH JAMA study

It is the Evusheld shots I got because I am immune compromised. Was wondering if there was a second dose to be gotten. After 2 vaccines and 2 boosters I had 0 immunity.

After 2 vaccines and 2 boosters my immunity to Covid was 0. So in April I received two shots of Evusheld one in each hip. . My question is when and if I should get another dose of Evusheld. I live in Florida. Thank you. Marilyn
