Just approved: Evusheld for the pre-exposure prevention of COVID-19

Does anyone have any more information on this just-approved by the FDA treatment for immunocompromised people? From what I am reading, it seems very exciting. Boy, what I wouldn’t give for a bit of protection from the scourge virus!

@cmael, So you got your local health care provider. That sounds great! I was lucky about the perfect timing of my notice with my Mayo Clinic visit! I had been deciding whether to get my 2nd booster before or after my annual post transplant visit and if the notice in my Mayo Patient Portal had come a day later, I might have had the booster which would have disqualified me for the Evusheld. Timing IS everything. I have an appointment with PCP tomorrow, and will ask him about the possibility of getting the next Evusheld locally if one is recommended. I won't be at Mayo until next May.
I'm always happy to see your name pop up! I still remember meeting you in the lab waiting area.

Hi Rosemary, yes, I remember our Mayo meeting as well. It’s hard to believe it’s been four years. My annual checkups fall in April. My local provider said that we’ll talk in six months about getting another dose of Evushield. I hadn’t gotten my my 2nd booster either and learned that I needed to hold off before the Evushield injections. It’s about an hour drive to the hospital where they give the injections. A bit inconvenient, but closer than Rochester.

I was told about the Evusheld injection at my 4 year check up in May in Rochester. I did have 4 covid shots and had never developed any antibodies. I thought about it for a couple weeks before deciding to get the Evusheld shots. I was able to get it at my local Mayo hospital (New Prague, MN) I will find out if I developed any antibodies at my next lab appointment. My team also just notified me that I am eligible for a 5th covid shot.

I’ve had 3 regular Moderna shots for Covid and 1 booster shot. I’m eligible for a 2nd booster (a 5th) shot, but haven’t gotten it yet.

@marilynredder2367, I want to clarify the information that you are referring to. It can be confusing.
The Evusheld treatment is not a Covid19 vaccine. It is a pre-emptive shot for immunosuppressed patients who do not get protection from the Covid19 vaccines due to our immunocompromised systems. It is given in a clinic setting and needs to be approved and ordered by care provider. It is 2 shots in the buttock, one immediately after the other. I am not sure if those who get it will need a repeat later. We are watching and waiting. I will share the link to CDC infoemation at the end of this post.

The other 'shot' is the Covid19 Vaccine which can be administered by local physician, pharmacy, health dept., etc. After the 1st shot (I believe this is what you have just received) there is a 2nd shot which ifs followed by the booster series (2)
NOTE_As a transplant patient who is immunosuppressed, we need to get 3 Covid19 vaccines before beginning the booster series (currently 2).

It is the Evusheld shots I got because I am immune compromised. Was wondering if there was a second dose to be gotten. After 2 vaccines and 2 boosters I had 0 immunity.

Just returned from my Mayo appt and they confirmed I should get another Evushield 6 months after my first injections.

Hi there, wondering if you ended up getting evusheld. What type of autoimmune neuro. I have auroimmune neuro disease that flared bad to mrna. Used to do ok with ivig. Then started flaring to it. Trying to decide on Evusheld but only have one vax in me

Yes. Big neuro take down form mrna affecting bowel and bladder and more x 2 months

Weighing whether to get Evusheld shots if/when available from my transplant center lottery. Have all the Covid19 shots and boosters. Got a mild version of Covid while on a trip to France and am slowly recovering. Advised my transplant coordinator that I am positive. So that's in the file. Is anyone else in the same predicament? Does anyone have any advice on reactions to the Evusheld drugs?
