Cardiac Rehab

Posted by Elizabeth MacKenzie @elizabethmackenzie, Aug 14, 2017

I am starting cardiac rehab tomorrow following two minor heart attacks last spring due to Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD). I am wondering what kind of experience others had from rehab. What did you find helpful?

Thanks!

Elizabeth

Hi I am a heart transplant patient from Phoenix and did rehab after my surgery and all was good. I went through riding a bike for 20 minutes, weight training, stretches and curls from a diagram.
Mine was good not hard and the rehab coordinators don't over push you or potential.
Hope all goes well in rehab and hope all is good.
But most importantly good bless you and your family.

Hello @coyne,

Thank you so much for introducing yourself, and sharing your insights. I was wondering if you've seen the Transplant group, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/transplants/ and the Transplant page, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/page/transplant/ on Connect? They are incredibly informative resources.

Toby, we look forward to getting to know you. May I ask what led to the heart transplant?

Sending good wishes to you, interested in your age and why the transplant. Aren't we fortunate to live in a time where transplants are an option? I am a recently retired ER RN who was involved in encouraging families to be donors when their horrible events happened. It was very stressful for me, for them, and must be incredibly anxiety producing to be waiting for an organ. God bless you and your family. Linda Libby RN

Thank you, Kanaaz! I am so grateful to the Mayo Clinic for the wonderful care I received there when I visited the Rochester campus for my SCAD work-up.

I had a great first day! I met with the intake nurse for two hours. She was warm, sharp as a tack, and funny. I meet with an exercise physiologist tomorrow.

My ejection fraction is 18, and I'm exhausted all the time. My cardiologist encouraged me to begin cardiac rehab, which I did a month ago. I can't do much, but when I finish, I have to sleep for about 2 hours. This doesn't seem normal. Have any of you with low ejection fractions experienced this? Thanks.
