C. difficile – Are your guts ever normal again?
Does anyone know any body that has recovered from c.diff (guts back to pre-c.diff status ) . I have been negative for a year and still have bloating every time I eat anything and sporadic diarrhea. I need maternity clothing to eat and be comfortable. I have 0 appetite since I was initially infected.I am on creon 36,000 . this helps some what with bloating,I take papya&pineapple enzymes not helping, and floraster 2xday not sure about that.I have tried the FODMAP diet, I avoid many foods on that diet. I am seeing an RD, just finished an elimination diet with her. If I eat I bloat there for I am. Bottom line…are my guts ruined forever ?

I would also add that I had it also and I'm still on antibiotics for another reason but to keep cdif from.returning I'm on a supliment recommend by my doctor of Lactobacillus Acidophilus as that keeps your good gut bacteria balenced.

When you have various problems and new infections as i did , i turned to the fecal transplant and THANK GOD it worked,, it gives you a fresh start with good bacteria in your system. Process is just like a colonoscopy and insurances cover it. Hope it can help anyone who is interested .
Your body never recovers, ever, that I have been told. What happens the C-diff lays dormant in your system until another bacteria comes around that it wants to come out and play with per-say. I had C-diff for almost a year. It was the worst year of my life all the way around. It came back when I had to have stitches over my eye from a fall. I have falls like they are going out of style. I was given Keflex and that is one antibiotic that brings C-diff back out of its hole. Put that ion the list. Good luck everyone!!
Thank you for sharing your story and glad you are out of the woods from c Diff. If you don’t mind me asking after how long you needed antibiotic for your eyes that c Diff came back. Was it within a year?
Thank you for sharing. And now that you are on antibiotic for another reason your c Diff hasn’t returned right?
@mhi No, I had cdif jun of 2019 and due to a virus that plagues me called parvo b19 I've been on antibiotics for about a year now. No cdif issues at all. Praise God and I agree with the other person that I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. I also was told about the fecil transplant but didn't need it so far. I was treated at Mayo in Phoenix and I understand they have been having success with the transplant.
Have a blessed day

@mhi also the antibiotics I'm on now are Doxycycline Monohydrate 200 mg and Dapsone 100 mg both per day I also take Amoxicillin every 6 months prior to my dental cleaning .
It is amazing to hear that your c Diff didn’t come back after once again you were exposed to antibiotic! Stay well wishing you all the best
@gfpp That’s exactly what I did almost 2 years ago! Best decision ever!
Yes, your guts can be normal again but must watch your diet and maybe take medication prescribed by your doctor.
@gfpp I continue to take Visbiome and saccharomyces boulardii, alternating between the two!
I was diagnosed with CDiff approximately 2 1/2 months ago and was placed on Vancomycin. I am feeling fine right now but am having abnormal Creatinine and GFR levels. My Mayo GI is sending me to a Kidney Specialist. I am trying not to worry but am wondering if the Vancomycin which is such a strong antibiotic affected my kidneys and they need to heal.
Has anyone else had this problem?
