B-6 vitamin danger!

Posted by Lynsorensen @lynsorensen, Dec 11, 2017

With the assistance of a neurologist at Mayo Clinic, I have almost completely eliminated the uncontrolled muscle spasms now. First and foremost: beware of taking multi-vitamin capsules that have B6 listed. B-6 overdosage (which is contained in every multivitamin I found in stores and on the internet) can cause loss of muscle control and spasms in some people. So can gluten found in many foods so now I am also gluten free. I now work out with a personal trainer 3 days a week and do water aerobics another 2 days. Got off gabapentin and also clonazepam. Using CBD oil capsules each morning (no more opioids or chemicals) and using a CBD topical ointment to rub on my leg muscles each night. He says I don’t need him anymore! And I don’t. No more shaking or muscle cramps or pain. Still a little numbness but that is receding also.

Hi carryme, REALLY? How soon after was your neuropathy? This peripheral neuropathy started like within 4 days of the flu shot then I was in the ER by the 7th day but nobody asked about the flu shot and I didn't put the two together until my husband found the flu vaccine reactions online when we were trying to figure out the reasons for peripheral neuropathy and what happened to me so fast.

I just remember that I get my flu shot every year around the same time and shortly there after 2 years ago , I see some talking about having taken cipro and coming up with syppyoms ,

Hi John, sorry to bother you but can you point me in the right direction? I have not had any messages on my neuropathy site for about 7 days now . I don't think all our friends have deserted me. I emailed to connect but that email just came right back to me unanswered.
Many thanks.

Hi Arnrob @arnrob, Check to see if you are following the Neuropathy Group. Go to the top of any Connect discussion screen and click the Group link. Then on the Neuropathy Group page make sure that it says Following. If it says Follow, click the link and it will change to Following.

There is a link at the bottom of every Connect screen to the Get Started on Connect guide in the left column. The guide has a lot of good information on how to do tasks in Connect. Here's the link it goes to:

Hi lynsorenson.. what dosage of the CBD oil capsules do you use each day? Also what dosage of Vitamin B 12 do you use? I take 100 mg of Gabapentin 3x/day and have started taking about 20mg of CBD oil at night for sleep, which helps pain too. My new leg braces have improved walking 60 % with less pain and much less fatigue.
Thanks
Margot

Hi Margot! You also have leg braces? I haven't known anyone else with leg braces for neuropathy. I wear the Allard braces called The Blue Rocker. I've had them for about 3 years.

I could not believe what they did for me! I put on the 'sample' brace and immediately I could walk, turn around and walk back. It was a miracle, truly.

I wear the braces every day, but still needed a walker eventually since I have balance problems related to my neuropathy and the braces didn't completely solve that problem.

I often see others with serious problems, using canes and other assistive devices, but not braces. I always want to 'say something' about my own braces, but I don't, since I have no idea exactly what their walking problems are, or what they've already tried.

Regards, ElaineD

I have worn a leg brace on my left leg for over a month and it has been a blessing. No more cane! I have a drop foot condition and tripped regularly until I got the brace.

@elained, @margottaylor and @jimbotch — I went to a Minnesota Neuropathy Association meeting a couple of years ago and Dr Lars Oddsson shared the story about Walkasins, the first wearable sensory prosthesis to help balance and mobility in individuals with peripheral neuropathy. Sole inserts measure foot pressure and gentle tactile vibrations provide balance cues around the lower leg. He shared the story of how it was developed and how it helped a man with diabetic neuropathy gain his life back. Really interesting technology.

I would be cautious of supplements/herbs etc. unless you have checked with places like ConsumerLab or Labdoor to make sure they are not contaminated and the labels accurately identify what is in the container so you know what you using. Always check for interactions. These labs also check contents of Kefir and yogurts and protein powders etc. I purchased the ConsumerLab membership and they do have CBD oil explanations as well as approved and not approved. There is CBD oil and there is hemp oil supplements and lotions. One example that was tested and approved is Bluebird Botanicals Hemp Classic 6X Concentrated and Plus CBD oil hemp softgels are just a couple but be aware that they do not provide high doses used clinically.

Be sure to check that the B vitamin you are taking is really a B vitamin. Be sure it is GMP or NSF certified or third party tested. Not all B is the same.

Hello, I was told I had peripheral neuropathy after a back surgery that never seemed to help. The neurologist I saw for about a year moved out of state but never suggested anything so now I am just going to my regular doctor. In the past 5 years it has been about the same it starts in my toes and then my feet ankles and shins burn some. This is mostly in the evening before bedtime. I walk on a treadmill regularly and sometimes I don't feel the pins and needles. Since I have a sleep disorder I take a prescribed sleeping pill that I take with the pm tablet. After about an hour the pins and needles stop and if I am awake I get very hungry. My doctors advise is only to keep walking. I can't say my neuropathy has gotten worse as I was told it would. Although I dislike the pain and discomfort maybe I am lucky. I have tried some CBD oil orally but can't say it helped. Perhaps I should try something topical ? Here in Missouri we can't take anything with any THC unless prescribed. Any suggestions ? Jerrys
