Is there a good alternative to statins? I was put on Rasusvastatin 10
I'm looking for an alternative to statins. I had an episode of dizziness ( a potential side effect) and fell 10 feet onto my head. I was fortunate to not break my neck. The result was a concussion and severe neck sprain with a lot of pain. I work around macchinery and at heights.

How long were you on this statin? How old are you? What are your lipid numbers?
Did your doctor prescribe an alternative statin with different side effects? This is a normal first step.
Hi, I have been on a station for 3 yrs. I take it every other day . It's too lower your cholostrol, . I started off the same, I have halved my does as I find drs. Like to start high. Not always needed when you research. If you have had a to a or stroke, balance is an issue. My brother fell as well be was a roofer in great shape sadly died from the impact .
I was on 5 mg Rasuvastatin once daily from 6/08/2022 until 3/16/2023. I am 74.
On 6/08/2022 my LDL was 131 and my HDL was 91. On 3/16/2023 my
LDL was 87 and my HDL was 99. On that date I got a high calcium score of 440 but a heart catheterization showed minimal plaque in my coronary arteries. My Rasuvastain was increased to 10mg daily. I was also diagnosed with fibromuscular dysplasia with no significant stenosis anywhere including my brain. My doctor wants to prescribe Lipitor which can also cause dizziness and fainting. I have been offered no alternatives.
Thank you for your input. I am so sorry about your brother. I easily could have been killed....landing on head/neck.
It sounds as if other preexisting conditions have complicated your circumstances?
I am not a medical professional - this link discusses alternate statins, and statin desensitization.

Did your doctor discuss your very high HDL?
He did not discuss my high HDL. Is that a concern?

I cant take statins. My cholesterol is controlled with self-administered every two weeks injections of Repatha also known as evolocumab (not a statin).
Thank you very much
To be clear, cfb, I am not a medical professional and simply am noting that your HDL appears higher than one usually sees on these fora.
