Is there a good alternative to statins? I was put on Rasusvastatin 10

Posted by cfbauer @cfbauer, Aug 26, 2023

I'm looking for an alternative to statins. I had an episode of dizziness ( a potential side effect) and fell 10 feet onto my head. I was fortunate to not break my neck. The result was a concussion and severe neck sprain with a lot of pain. I work around macchinery and at heights.

If your faint was caused by low blood pressure, or restricted flow of blood, the cause should be determined. Normally, a CT scan, an angiogram, a doppler ultrasound....something has to be done to determine if you have a bad heart valve, a stenosis (narrowing) in an artery.....SOMETHING! A statin is just slowing what's going on, but it obviously hasn't done any good to the point where you are in danger at the moment.

I cant take statins. My cholesterol is controlled with self-administered every two weeks injections of Repatha also known as evolocumab (not a statin).

I have been through all of those tests and have minimal stenosis in my coronary arteries. I am finding that others have experienced dizziness and fainting while on Rasuvastatin and Lipitor.

Any side-effects?

My blood sugar number went up. On the Repatha insert anincreased blood sugar level is listed as a side effect. My endocrinologist says this is not caused by the Repatha. He said he was involved in the research of the drug . So my blood sugar is elevated but remains stable at what is considered pre-diabetes . He says it is genetic so have my mother to thank.
So, assuming the blood sugar is not caused by the Repatha, no side effects.

My Cardiologist switched me to Rosuvastatin 20 mg from Atorvastatin 10mg that I’d been on for 12 years. After a PVC incident during outpatient leg surgery. 4-5 visit culminating in a Arteriogram showed a 40% blockage in D1 off of LAD. No other problems and didn’t even know I had an issue. After a month of the new Statin, I have no energy, foggy brain and can’t remember simple things without giving it a lot of thought. Did I mention my joints, knees especially are killing me and never had that before. I skipped dose today and seeing if those symptoms subside before asking Cardi to switch me back to Atorvastatin. Anyone else have those symptoms with statins?

I had multiple muscle pain issues with multiple statins over many years. I was recently given Repatha and no problems and cut my levels in half! Self injector easy as pie. Can be expensive if no insurance but company has coupons.

I had low energy and a fainting spell while on Rosuvastatin. The fainting resulted in a fall from 10 feet resulting in a severe neck sprain/concusion.
After reading all of the side effect of statins in general, I have switched to
"Cholesterice" to help with control of my LDL. It consists of Red Yeast Rice, Plant Sterols, Pantethine, CoQ10 and Policosanol. My cardiologist has approved of my doing this. I work around power equipment (including saws), farm equipment and occasionally from heights.
