Newly diagnosed Stage 3B triple negative breast cancer in 70 year old
Hi,
My mother is 70 years old and have been diagnosed with triple negative stage 3B breast cancer last week and we are all very tensed on next steps.
The tumour size is 4cm with couple of node involvement, skin tissue involvement.
She is otherwise healthy Indian female , only taking medicines for thyroid and cholesterol.
Please advise.

Hi,
I was 67 when I got TNC stage 2 B.
You will have a cancer team, oncologist, surgeon, maybe radiologist.
I started with chemo because my tumor was large, 5.8 cm.
Then I had a single masectomy and stayed flat didn't want any more surgeries.
Then I had 15 days of radiation. Then I had xeloda a chemo pill, then I had zomeda for 3 years. This helps to not get reoccurrence in bones.
Once you talk with your oncologist you will get a plan of what treatment she will be needing. They have really good meds now to help not get sick from the chemo.
I am almost 73 now and at my 5 year mark.
Sending hugs to you both.

10 ReactionsSorry to hear this, but her overall good health will be very helpful in a successfull treatment! My advice is to find the best cancer center & the highest-ranking oncologist you can & take it from there. We are not medical professionals & we all have different experiences with our own cancer. We can share thoughts & support but your mom needs expert advice & care. Have you consulted with an oncologist yet?

3 Reactions@dolphina3 hi before you had your mastectomy did you have a contrast injected into your breast? I am scheduled for right breast mastectomy soon and Dr mentioned have an injection of contrast a few hours before
Someone mentioned itbwas into the breast 😬
@sart
Hi,
Yes they put contrast and another type before surgery. It helps to find any cancer in lymph nodes.
My lymph nodes were clear.
They should give you a type of nerve block before you leave surgery, for pain. I didnot have much pain.
I wish you a speedy recovery and a good lymph node report.

1 ReactionI was dx at 68 and my express was pretty similar to dolphina3. I did a lot of my own advance research to see what I was looking at for TNBC treatment, I'm BRCA2+. I did chemo first to shrink mass, then bilateral, I also went flat, then I did radiation, lastly I took lynparza because I'm BRCA2+. I tried to focus on people's more hopeful and constructive experiences on what they did to prepare for each treatment. I tried to stay away from bad experience comments. Learning what I could do to make each treatment a better experience was extremely helpful to enter the treatment with less anxiety for me. Best of luck, to your mom I'm currently 3 yrs NED

2 Reactions@dolphina3 thank you so much. On further advanced fish test, she is found to be HER2 positive and amplified .
Doctor (Onco) had now prescribed weekly chemo plus phesgo drug (once in three weeks) for 18 cycles and then will undergo mastectomy of single breast followed by radiation. She is now admitted today and will start with the treatment ( install chemo port and 1st cycle). Hope she is able to cope up and tolerate.

Hi,
Thinking of you both. I am glad you have the diagnosis and she will start treatment soon. Make sure she stays hydrated during treatment.
It sounds like she is in good hands.

I’m also a brca2. My bc was detected early by self breast exam. Are you taking aromatase inhibitor along with lynparza? I’m only prescribed ai for 5 years. I wonder why parp inhibitors are not included in my treatment. I’ll will ask my onco in the next appointment. Is lynparza prescribed to you because of TNBC? Thanks.
@dolphina3 ouch i hated the biopsy so how much did the contrast needle hurt
I don't like the sound of that 😕
