I'm taking Repatha shots every 2 weeks for cholesterol. So far, so good.
Has anyone experienced side effects...

Yes- started w/repatha but was allergic. Then went to Praluent about 3yrs ago. Have had no issues but bruising @ injection site. Very happy with results.

@czechgirl what happened to you when you took it. I am supposed to take it and am afraid to take it while I am alone. The Dr. should be the with you for the first dose. Happy to hear you are much better.

@gcgc I didn’t have any side effects & I found the injection pen very easy to use. I inject three inches to the side of my belly button and alternate sides w/ each use. I’ll admit taking it for the first few times I did stay at home a few hours afterwards, but haven’t had any issues- ever. It’s wise to be initially cautious until u r sure you can take this med safely. Hope this helps🙂

@czechgirl, I think @gcgc was referencing your comment you made that you started with Repatha but was allergic.

How long did you take Repatha? What side effects did you experience?

REPLY

Ok - sorry - yes, allergy to repatha showed up when taking first dose as a large 3 inch diameter hot welt at the injection site on my thigh. I was immediately taken off repatha and put on Praluent. The welt took several days to reduce in size/resolve. After talking thru w/ care team, I now only inject in my abdomen 😉

This was my experience. It took four shots for the side effects to be worse. Not doable! diarrhea, failure to void urine and deep severe itching.

@htaish I am statin and Repatha intolerant. I get too sick to talk them. I played the game of taking drugs that made me sick and experiencing low recoveries after quitting them for DECADES. I have been on Nexletol for 6 weeks with no side effects. It is the drug for “statin intolerant” patients. Who knows what the future will be, but so far this is the longest I have been able to take a cholesterol lowering drug. I am hopeful.

I've had two doses of Repatha and my side effects are mild but difficulty sleeping now and muscle pain in my legs at night. I've started taking pain medication at bedtime for the muscle pain, but not sure what to do about the difficulty sleeping. I've never had this problem and I love my sleep! Any suggestions?

@mbbeatley my experience with Repatha was that the side effects came on a bit more slowly than with statins so I thought I was going to be able to tolerate it, but once they did come on it was bad, AND, it took a lot longer for them to go away when I quit; for a while I thought the pain would be permanent but eventually it went away.
My philosophy is that I’m not going to take drugs that can harm me just to address the side effects of another drug. That seems like a slippery slope I don’t want to go on. I either can take a drug or not.
