Searching natural remedy on AMD (Age-related Macular Degenation
I was diagnosed suffering AMD (Age-related Macula Degenation) on early July, 2025. My left-eye has blurry vision on enter but no other symptoms found. I suspect being suffered on dry AMD because my left eye still able seeing straight lines.
I have been diagnosed suffering diabetes since 2006 but it is quite stable up to now. Also I have had blood and urea tests on early July but nothing abnormal found. My care doctor said my AMD is not caused by Diabetes in the eyes. I also have ultrasonic test on my neck but nothing abnormal found.
I have had the 1st injection of aflibercept (eylea) on July 25, 2025 but with no improvement. I'll have the second aflibercept injection on the coming August 20, 2025.
I'm now in anticipation to find natural remedy to AMD but nothing found on Internet searching.
Pls advise. Thanks in advance.

Hi Satimis,
I'm sorry you are going through this with your eyes. That's too bad. I have Retinitis Pigmentosa which is an eye disease that is supposed to make you go blind. However, I've had it for 15 years and I 'm 79 and haven't gone blind or anything near it yet. What I did was eat a lot of all the foods I could that have Vitamin A in them. Vitamin A is supposed to be very good for your eyes. Foods such as carrots, yellow and orange bell peppers and spinach. There are other foods with Vitamin A also. Just do a Google search for them. It worked because my Retinitis Pigmentosa almost quit. It became a very mild case. I'm also taking Vitamin A tablets. But before you do that, talk to your eye doctor to make sure it's the right thing in your situation.
Prayer also works. Just ask God for his help and you will get it. God is always there for us.
I'll say a prayer for you also.
I wish you the best.

Hi PML
Thanks for your detail advice.
I'm quite lucky, just getting AMD recently. I'm already 86 at age. I had very good eye-sight, when I was young, until recently. My right eye is still in good condition.
I eat a lot of Salmon, cooked,, egg and whole milk but seldom eat cheese because I don't like its taste. They are rich in Vat A !
Would exercise be helpful to AMD

That is a very long and informative article you referenced. I love the
part about the fate of a nation is determined by what you eat. I am a big believer in a clean healthy diet for all ills. I have some dry AMD and am currently being treated for macular edema in my bad right eye ( had a detached retina in that eye in the 1980s). My doctor told me years ago to eat as many green vegetables as I could. I happen to love kale and spinach. The western diet is a killer and contributes to obesity.
Most people need to adjust their eating habits to avoid processed foods and sugar. Eating clean and healthy requires some research on your part but is beneficial for the entire body, not just eye health. I happen to take Macula Support as a supplement along with d3k2. I don’t know if it helps but I don’t rely on supplements. And, at 84, I don’t take any medications or have any organic problems. Both my ENT and ophthalmologist prefer clean diets over supplements. I do have osteoporosis but take no drugs. I also walk daily and attend 3 gym classes weekly. I try to eat organic as much as possible and salmon…any fish really…sardines , chicken and ground chuck occasionally. I do not deprive myself and enjoy my meals. Supplements are expensive additions…I could probably do without them but…they don’t hurt and I tend to taken them every other day..like putting an extra bandaid on a cut.
That’s my 3 cents (inflation).

Also, Preservion ARDs 2 eye vitamins have been recommended to me by my retina doctor.
Bear with me on this, please: My eye surgeon's assistant yesterday said
AREDS 2 are important to take. She said any brand is fine. Store brand, etc. but to be sure it says AREDS 2 (I personally am wondering about quality, ingredients, etc. of the store brands. I'll have to research.) I mentioned the placebo effect that the other assistant mentioned a few months ago, and yesterday she said, yes it can just be a placebo effect but if even one person thinks it works that's great. I left shaking my head. I'll call them later and have the Triage nurse actually ask the surgeon himself about the AREDS 2 if I still need to take them. I get so confused.
I have had dry AMD for two years (no symptoms yet). Technically AREDS2 are natural in that they are a mix of ingredients that can stop or slow AMD. I also eat a fair amount of carrots and other veggies high in beta carotene (removed from AREDS2 because smokers and beta carotene don't mix). Mostly, I get enough exercise, avoid stress, and am at normal weight.
Hi,
Thanks for your advice.
A brief searching on Internet, I found following information from National Eye Institute (NIH) :
AREDS 2 Supplements for Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
....
AREDS 2 supplements can’t prevent early AMD from developing into intermediate AMD.
medicine tablets
....
If you have late AMD in only 1 eye, AREDS 2 may slow down the progression of AMD in the other eye.
...
Are there any risks or side effects ?
Because AREDS 2 supplements have very large amounts of vitamins and minerals, they may change the way your body digests food. They can also change the way that other medicines work in your body. ......
That, the last, is very important.
I don't believe completely the myth of medicine tablets. I'll continue searching the natural remedy of AMD. Thanks
Regards
Most doctors recommend them. But I’m not convinced that they have any effect at all. The Preservision made me so sick that I’m turned off of all AREDS. When I told my long-term GP that my optometrist and ophthalmologist had recommended them, but I stopped taking them because they made me sick, he kind of rolled his eyes and said something like, “Yeah, they all recommend the AREDS, but they don’t do anything for you.”
I'm not ready to take the chance that they don't work. Did you try to take 1/2 the dose?
