Searching natural remedy on AMD (Age-related Macular Degenation
I was diagnosed suffering AMD (Age-related Macula Degenation) on early July, 2025. My left-eye has blurry vision on enter but no other symptoms found. I suspect being suffered on dry AMD because my left eye still able seeing straight lines.
I have been diagnosed suffering diabetes since 2006 but it is quite stable up to now. Also I have had blood and urea tests on early July but nothing abnormal found. My care doctor said my AMD is not caused by Diabetes in the eyes. I also have ultrasonic test on my neck but nothing abnormal found.
I have had the 1st injection of aflibercept (eylea) on July 25, 2025 but with no improvement. I'll have the second aflibercept injection on the coming August 20, 2025.
I'm now in anticipation to find natural remedy to AMD but nothing found on Internet searching.
Pls advise. Thanks in advance.
Regards

Hi mosaics,
Thanks for your further comment.
In the past, I only ate Broccoli but no green leave vegetables. From now on I'll eat green leave vegetables instead. I eat lot of eggs and cooked salmons. Occasionally I eat red/orange bell pepper. I use olive oil for cooking.
Is Areds2 sold over counter or it needs doctor's prescription to purchase ?
AREDS is OTC. Preservision is quite expensive. I don’t know about other brands.
Google NIH articles on the new AMD gut-eye axis research - how diet is a factor in AMD and which bad bacteria are causative in wet AMD. The eye has its own bacterial cultures that (similiar to Candida) are factors in inflammation and drusen formation in AMD. The NIH researchers conclude that a low glycemic diet ( like for diabetes control) is protective. and that bacterial factors are involved in the pathology of AMD. AREDS 2 and eating salmon, green and yellow vegetables are important. Eating both probiotic and prebiotics foods daily and following a low glycemic diet they say can also help. This is why obesity is listed as a AMD factor as well as sunlight and smoking.
Hi 56huxley,
Thanks for your advice.
I don't believe completely on the myth of pills.
I have excellent eye-sight since youth and until now at 86. I never need spectacle in the past. Even now, I don't need spectacle reading computer display. After having developed AMD on my left eye, my right eye can still reading computer display without spectacles.
I eat lot of fruits, mixed fruit pulps in breakfast, red and green apples, orange, melon, green grape and banana (not juice) etc. I eat lot of salmon, scallops, shrimps, eggs, yellow and red bell pepper and now green leaves vegetable.
My eyesight is very poor at the intermediate AMD stage. I use E-scoops to drive and used an optometrist the highest qualified - FFAO and IVOLTA - so with 20/40 mandatory limit in my state I still have an unrestricted driving license . OP asked for natural remedies but with my very poor eye genetic makeup - CFH gene with double Y407H they say my AMD goes quickly and straight to GA or advanced AMD. I must use both natural and supplements to fight progression. . I am treating this like a complex systems problem, not a AREDS2 single-pill solution:
Supporting mitochondrial function (PQQ, CoQ10, etc.)
Modulating inflammation (e.g., saffron, NAC, herbal anti-inflammatories)
Supporting retinal structural integrity (lutein, zeaxanthin, DHA, taurine)
Potential neuroprotection and gene expression tuning (e.g., DHEA, pregnenolone, melatonin, and even rapamyacin) I have a localized serious eye immune system dysfunction. Age 76 now ( i have the eyes of a 90 year old) first diagnosed with AMD at age 65. I am fighting to stay sighted and independent. My Mothers eyes went to wet AMD and she couldn't drive. I can't afford to just use natural remedies but they are very good in your case. You are aging well so keep up the good healthy eating habits - they are working for you. If my eyes deteriorate further I will have to move to Florida where the lenient DMV vision 20/70 is the requirement to drive.
Correction- FFAO and IALVS low vision optometrist qualifications.
Still got it wrong it's FAAO and
"The International Academy of Low Vision Specialists (IALVS) believes in life after vision loss.
We are a group of optometrists who are specially trained in low vision to help patients suffering from: Macular Degeneration: Wet or Dry, Albinism, Glaucoma, Stargardt’s Disease, Diabetic Retinopathy, Retinitis Pigmentosa, and other Vision-Limiting Conditions
Low Vision Aids
Low Vision Resources
Low Vision Treatment"
For intermediate dry AMD with some vision loss the E-scoop lenses may help with driving and maintaining an unrestricted driving license. They brought my vision in one eye up to 20/40 so at my renewal date with a M4 form signed by my optometrist I have an unrestricted driving license.
So you're receiving eye injections in one eye? Your late stage "wet" in one eye and dry in the other? Because they do not give injections for dry unless it's GA, late stage dry. Before you were diagnosed in July you did not know you had anything wrong with your eyes, like AMD? But after the diagnosis, last month, in July they immediately started injections? I'm just trying to understand before I give my input. Also, what is your age?
My retina specialist told me to eat for my eyes the same I would for my heart. Research has found the blood vessels in both are very similar. I'm 57, I was told I have AMD 3 years ago but found out via requesting my records that I've actually had it for at the least 7 years and guess what they never told me and when they did it wasn't treated like a big deal .. my vision is still very good. I eat a lot good healthy foods all day every day. I take AREDS, vitamin c, turmeric, antioxidant vitamins, I add antioxidant fruit powders and flax seed to my smoothies.... I walk n exercise in some way every day. I pray to Saint Lucy patron saint of sight. I pray a cure comes along. I cry about it but I try not to think about it. I don't why I have it so young. Luckily, research and science has a long way for us... There's more today then even 5 years ago. I had someone with AMD tell this isn't a blind death sentence, I keep that in the back of my head. My retina doctor told me she has patients who not progressed in decades. My friend in England has had it 17 years and still sees and drives etc. try not to let it bother you much .. if you do it will consume your life. I hope I live to be your age and have my vision and complete independence. 😊
Lucy- You said in an earlier bleg here that Johns Hopkins diagnosed you with pattern dystrophy. That's not AMD it has a much better prognosis. Please do a AI check at chat GPT because AI states you cant have both diseases. Retina doctors come in 2 types medical and surgical or some practice both and they don't practice preventive medicine. All they tell you is to take AREDS2 and eat green foods or whatever. But many foods that are deep fried like french fries or potato chips, have compounds directly harmful ti the retina and that negate the effect of the good foods they tell you eat for eye health. If you cant find a doctor like mine that just practices preventive medicine then consult a dietician or AI. The retina doctors don't tell you what NOT to eat! Lucy, I think you should start a pattern dystrophy post to see if there are other patients that have your condition that have family members with AMD. You are very lucky to have been seen at Hopkins and VERY lucky you don't have the more serious disease of AMD.
