Most doctors recommend them. But I’m not convinced that they have any effect at all. The Preservision made me so sick that I’m turned off of all AREDS. When I told my long-term GP that my optometrist and ophthalmologist had recommended them, but I stopped taking them because they made me sick, he kind of rolled his eyes and said something like, “Yeah, they all recommend the AREDS, but they don’t do anything for you.”

I'm not ready to take the chance that they don't work. Did you try to take 1/2 the dose?

Google NIH articles on the new AMD gut-eye axis research - how diet is a factor in AMD and which bad bacteria are causative in wet AMD. The eye has its own bacterial cultures that (similiar to Candida) are factors in inflammation and drusen formation in AMD. The NIH researchers conclude that a low glycemic diet ( like for diabetes control) is protective. and that bacterial factors are involved in the pathology of AMD. AREDS 2 and eating salmon, green and yellow vegetables are important. Eating both probiotic and prebiotics foods daily and following a low glycemic diet they say can also help. This is why obesity is listed as a AMD factor as well as sunlight and smoking.
