.Repeated urinary tract infections

Posted by @birdntroutlady in Brain & Nervous System, Mar 27, 2012

I am having repeated urinary tract infections with a variety of bacteria cultured. I have just learned I have fibromyalgia. I need help and don't know who to see. I was also exposed to a lot of mold (Cladosporium, Aspergillus) when I was teaching school. I have retired, but the UTIs have not.

Hi there! I just wanted to drop you a line and ask you if you have considered taking a 'dose' of 2 tblspns of applecider vinegar and organic honey in a half cup of tepid water everyday...preferably (for me) on an empty stomach... its a cute as well as a preventive for UTI's... We have 2 things in common...both retired teachers and have fibromyalgia (before they had a label for it! heh! 🙂 Good luck to you!!

Hi wellcome to our community.I over the years have had UTI'S myself. But I am an aged care worker I work with people who have high care needs, and many get recurrent Uti's . Bettyann's suggestion sounds good and I think that It would definelty be worth a try. Take care Piglit I too am retired from teaching. I taught children gifted and special needs for many years. So we seem to have things in common .

Hey! How about that!! Awrighty then! I also use Golden Seal Root in capsule form...(for UTIs) but it is a very powerful antibiotic herb and always hesitate to recommend it. Has to be the 'root' ...not just the leaves and stems...and it IS pricey. Well, here comes the weekend. At 'your place' it is already, right Piglet?!
Take care!

I have gastric reflux and a hiatal hernia so I watch the acidity of food I ingest. Thanks anyway.

I have had idiopathic urinary retention for 12+ years but didn't have problems with frequent UTIs until a couple of years ago. I was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Most neurologists are clueless when it comes to helping you with or even diagnosing fibromyalgia. I would recommend calling Dr. Gene Neri at (630) 654-3636. He diagnosed me right away and within a week, my pain started decreasing. Improvement is slow but before that my pain was increasing so rapidly that I thought I would be disabled before the end of 2012. I also go to a specialized physical therapist that helps me stay functional for the most part. I still haven't figured out the frequent UTI thing but I am seeing my urologist again in July.

No. I do have a lot of scar tissue on my kidneys and the tubes to my bladder. I just found out the latest attempt to get rid of the latest UTI failed and now the doctor wants me to get a series of shots. This is a first for me.

Thanks! I take a 500 mg cranberry pill once a day now. My gynecological urologist told me to eat yogurt every day. Didn't say what kind and I eat Greek yogurt. Went on trip without it and did ok. So far so good. I'll check into the the THERACRAN.

I have been eating Greek yogurt a lot since before all of this started so I can't say that this has helped. My primary care doctor gave me Levoflaxin since I was out of town and couldn't do the shots. I had to stop taking. I significantly evelated my fibromyalgia pain and made even joint in my body hurt. I went to physical therapy this morning which helped on the parts she was able to work on...but my knees, shoulders, wrists, hands & fingers are killing me. I don't know what they are going to do next.

I had a series of shots once; they stung like the devil, but it worked! Good luck.

Hello,
Make sure you're wiping correctly. Antibiotics can also cause these. Be well my dear.
Hugs,

Thankfully, the UTIs have slowed down greatly since I began med for FM. I am anxious to read about new treatments that don't involve medication. Going to check on a FM clinic that is only 1 hr away from me. I am learning to pace my activities and realiize I can't do all in one day as I used to do! Friends are being understanding-even husband and our grown children!

I don't know much about the fibromyaligia (sp?) but I hope this can help you with the UTIs.
Won't bore you with the background but due to Lyme disease my bladder was paralyzed. Still have to self catherize and you may know that this causes more UTIs. Well, my urologist suggested I take THERACRAN (made by Theralogix out of the Pittsburgh, PA area). It has now been over five months and I have to say tht the only difference is my taking this supplement. This brand is different than the crannberry products you can purchase over the counter. This is much, much better-pure cranberry powder--and your doctor can give you a discount # to use when ordering. It costs about $50 for 3 months supply. I take 2/day.
I was frustrated before I found this --so extra clean..etc etc...and really wondered if this product would help. Well, it does! They will automatically send you the next supply unless you tell them to stop prior to the ship date. Excellent, high integrity people there. Can't say enough nice things about them. If I can be of furyther help, do let me know. Their website is http://www.theralogix.com/
Then select the product you want (in this case Theracran).
It works!

I wanted you to know that about 24 yrs ago I had chronic kidney and uti infections. I just could get rid of them. Sulfur drugs antibiotics and multiple times with shots in each kidney on a daily basis for several days. I had heard cranberry and water obviously great for them, but also was a teenager so learning. I went to the pharmacy and bought several bottles of the strongest herbal capsule cranberry I could find. Mainly cause I just don't like cranberry juice. I doubled the dosage on the bottle and kept with it for about 60 days then backed down to normal dosage and remained on it for about a yr. I had not had another one since. So 20 + yrs. I did recently have a kidney stone followed by a kidney infection and also told that my urinalysis indicated I might be a group strep b carrier. I am back on the cranberry double strength twice a day hoping this should clear things up. I just wanted to share my experience with cranberry. Thanks.
Ps I'm not a big herbal person but the cranberry sold me all the way.

I've been using a cranberry supplement daily for many years. A gynecological uroogist told me to eat yogurt everyday. I've done that and now I'm on 1 trimehtoprim (antibiotic-low dose) every day. Urologist does me fine.
