Quick question…..How long did you all do PT, either at home or at a PT center post op? I am 13 weeks out and do none…..or very little, but do walk 2.2 miles usually a day.

Somehow my iPad lost the function “mention someone”, so consider yourself tagged. . Either one of you do so such strenuous exercises in the pool, you must be in great shape, and / or in a very good pool/fitness center. The one I joined did a super job of designing knee rehab exercises, throwing in balance and upper arm strength workout, but in the end for me I worked up to basically swimming. Distances. Mostly 800 meters, a few times 1000 meters. Good aerobic workout, loosening up knee, and life is good in the water. This center also offers a great variety of water exercise classes, but the timing – mid morning, but I’m already going places then – does not work for me. In SC. Where it gets pretty warm, pretty soon, both in the day, and in the season. So the mornings from now on out are for yard work. And planting. And pulling weeds. And harvesting – first batch of sugar snap peas 2 days ago. Spinach, lettuce, and radishes, of course. (Just in case there are gardeners out there). Who also can’t kneel well. Oh well………. sorry to get off subject.

@ellerbracke – You are making me jealous with your sugar snap peas. Yum. I'm in St. Augustine, FL and it's starting to get nice and warm here too. I really love to be in the outdoor pool when I can, but my wellness center pool is indoors. The nice advantage is that its heated so very comfortable all year round.
@ellerbracke I would love mid-morning, I'm a late starter. Our classes are at 9:00 and on Saturday at 8:30. I planned to go today but I woke up at 4:00 A.M. and couldn't get back to sleep so I was afraid if I went I would fall asleep in the water and drown. I will do the gym this afternoon. Back to bed for a nap shortly.
Your fresh veggies must be delish, no green thumb here, it's definitely brown — everything withers and dies.
Hi, I'm pretty new here, but I'm starting aquatic PT in May and am excited about it! When I had my 2nd hip arthroscopy in 2008, I did aquatic and just found it much more relaxing and enjoyable then the other kind,lol.
In 2013-2015 Iived in FL and had a bilateral mastectomy bc of TNBC and also had nerve blocks throughout my spine bc of the facet joint arthropy, etc. I also used my pool, checked out YouTube for some PT ideas and did that.
Now I've got this severe iron in my brain and trying to get a dx. I'm feeling like it could be MS with my symptoms. I also have fibromyalgia and it's gotten pretty severe lately. And also getting my ovaries removed in june. I'm tired of surgeries but try to just keep a positive spirit! Hugs!

I've never heard of iron in the brain, is that a typical MS symptom? How did you discover that you had it?
I hear you when you say you are tired of surgeries. I can relate to that too well — tired of hospital stays too.
Water PT sounds great. I do water classes but have not had PT in a pool. There is a physical therapy business within my health club and they do some, but they don't have a great reputation for PT.
I'm three months out from my left TKR. I was in the hosp/rehab facility for almost three weeks then home and started OP PT twice a week and exercises he sent home with me. Having the printed out exercises was gold for me as I'm a visual learner. Anyway, this last month was once a week plus home. Things are great thank goodness. I feel very blessed after reading some posts on here and pray for those who aren't. I am still having trouble with stairs, still using the sideways step on down. Up the regular way as long as I can pull up with the railing:) I would love to try some water classes but am rural and don't have access☹
Yes, indoor heated pool here as well. I remember my younger days in Austria, where we would – as a challenge, and just for the heck of it – dive into a lake with mountain snow run-off every year on May 1st. Probably would be pain-killing and numbing…..much prefer heated pool and extra large and warm whirlpool after workout these days.
Hi JK @contentandwell , Right now, I just go to aquatic PT a couple times a week. My dr suggested to start out slow so that it's not overwhelming and that I don't get self defeated. I thought that was great advice because I can be a bit of an Type A personality and end up trying to over achieve which then sets me back.
Just recently, I've come to some real acceptance of my health issues (7 surgeries so far) and more needed, and the weird brain issue. And that its okay to switch gears on a day that I might have plans, if I'm not feeling well. Life is full of switching gears! I've learned to be as empathic to myself as I am to others. It took a long time but I finally got there and it fills me with peace..most days anyway! Hugs!
@butterflylan17 It is smart to start out slowly. I had been doing water classes prior to my surgery so the group knew me there. When I resumed I went to class late every day to do a shortened version. I like to be there at the end because then there is a lot of stretching, so I preferred starting late to leaving early.
We all need to be empathic to ourselves. Yesterday I wanted to try out yoga in the morning but my back was hurting and I didn't want to start like that. I questioned myself, was I just using that as an excuse, but I decided it really was a good decision. We can only do what we can do.
I generally do water exercises on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Today I am just about to leave to do a session in the gym. I really hate the gym but I feel it's necessary, and at my age they say that it's important to do strengthening exercises. UGH
Hi @chigirl – Welcome to Connect! And congratulations on getting through that first three months of recovery. You and I are about the same point – I had my left TKR on January 29, 2019. Stairs & balance were the hardest part of PT for me. In terms of balance, I'm still not completely comfortable on uneven ground or walking at night. I'm a little better at stairs and at this point I usually go up and down with a reciprocal step – but not when I am tired or when the weather is bad! I understand you don't have water classes – how about yoga or even chair yoga? Is that something that might be helpful?
Chair yoga, thanks for the reminder. It's not yoga but a chair exercise program on PBS. Better than nothing🙃
