New Infectious Disease Patient

Posted by @rjdavis031, Fri, Aug 31 2:40am

I just received my first appointment in Jacksonville to see an infectious disease doctor. A little background, for some odd reason, out of the blue, I get cold/shaking, high heart rate, and a high temperature. The first time this occurred when I was in the Army and was taken to hospital by ambulance. Ever since then, the past 10 years, I still get this episodes and depending on the severity, I end up back in the ER. My doctor has sent me to just about every known doctor on the face of earth, except for a witch doctor lol! Every blood test comes back negative. Every MRI, CT scan, ultrasound, Allergist, Echo-cardiogram, Infectious Disease, Gastro appointment/test i've had comes back negative. The infectious disease doctor I spoke to locally was really no help, so i'm really nervous about even going through with this whole thing at Mayo. Since I only have one appointment with the infectious disease consult. Mayo is kind of my last hope to find any answers.

rjdavis031, I send you strength and hope.

@rjdavis031 So sorry what your going through. How long does the episode last for? That has to be scary to experience. Especially when no one can find anything wrong. Have any other military members you were stationed with get these same episodes?

You will find the DR's at Mayo Clinic to be very understanding and completely through with their evaluation. The campus itself is more like going to a Medical Spa, instead an institutional hospital. Everyone is pleasant and very concerned with how you feel. The overall atmosphere of Mayo in Jacksonville is very calming. You never see upset people.

Would you please share your Mayo experience with us?

I wish you the best..

These episodes only last roughly 4-24 hours. Some are more severe than others. Sometimes they come on slow and I can take care of it at home. But mostly they come on fast and going to the ER will help. I've tried getting in touch with some of the guys I was with and none of them are experiencing what I'm going through. I have been looking into every aspect of the Army in my medical files to see if something clicks. Thank you so much for the response! I'll definitely share my experience.
