Has anyone used Monolaurin for Epstein Barre Virus?

Posted by bayhorse @bayhorse, Oct 17, 2022

Have any of you used monolaurin for EBV? And if you found it effective, could you let me know what supplement brand you used?

Thanks!

@bayhorse, I added your question to the Infectious Diseases group (https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/infectious-disease/) as well. Fellow members @jeff49 and @mrmie may have experience with monolaurin to share.

"People take monolaurin supplements to encourage immune health and general wellness, but there’s little scientific data to back up these claims. Studies have investigated the antimicrobial effects of coconut oil, lauric acid, and monolaurin, but most of these studies have been conducted in test tubes and petri dishes (in vitro).

Its antimicrobial properties have been clearly established, but more research is needed to test the effects of monolaurin on living subjects." Read more https://www.healthline.com/health/monolaurin

Hi, Colleen: Thank you for adding my question to the Infectious Diseases group. I posted it here because several people who responded to my question about the AIP diet mentioned that they have EBV, as do I. Also, I read online -- though can't remember which sites right now -- that monolaurin had been helpful for people who had both EBV and autoimmune illnesses.

My doc hasn't mentioned or recommended it. I came across monolaurin when doing some reading for another issue. I have emailed her about it to see what she knows, as she is board certified in integrative medicine and prescribes a lot of supplements.

Meantime, thank you for your response!

Hi @bayhorse. No, I never had a doctor recommend it. I did take it for a little while, but it wasn’t helpful.

What helped me was following a neuroplasticity training program and working with a functional medicine doctor who gave me the supplements needed to support my poorly functioning adrenals. Since then, no more EBV (mono) recurrences, more energy, and improved anxiety.

Everyone’s situation is unique. Wishing you the best! 😊

After Moderna 1 activated hidden EBV symptoms, in the next two months, I experiened extreme debiltating fatigue, body aches, and a resurbece of bacterial and autoimune diseases. A short time later shortness of breath on minor exertion was added and persisted for the next 18 months. A Mayo connect member recently recommended a Lysine 500mg -Olive leaf 500mg twice/day protocol. I was already taking 2 scoops of Enhanced Monolauren and continued it at the same time. (Inspired Nutrition, Monolauren manufacturer). Three weeks later the shortness of breath from minor exertion was resolved and hasn't returned even after stopping all the relevant supplements several months ago.

Gillysmom, could you please tell me what brand of Lysine-Olive leaf you were using? Or were those two separate supplements? In any case, I find brand can make a tremendous difference in results. I suffer from shortness of breath unrelated to my heart disease, and pulmonologist says unrelated to lung issues, so I would like to try your supplements.

Hi, Marianne: Could you please tell me what kind of supplements you were using to support your adrenals. My pc, who is board trained in integrative medicine, has me on several supplements, none of which seem to be very helpful.
Meantime, thank you for your good wishes!

Could you tell me a bit more about the neuroplasticity training program? Thank you!

Could you let me know about which type of neuroplasticity training program you did? I would like to look into it.
Thank you,

Hope these work for you too.
NOW L-Lysine 500mg, and Swanson Olve leaf extract 500mg twice/day. All the best.

I have been so weak since my 2nd Covid shot; it brought back my Epstein Barr that has been dormant for 17 years and 2-years later, I am still with high EB numbers. I still sleep 10 to 12 hours a day and limit my activity because I am too weak to function. I do floor exercises and walk for 45-minutes in the pool, but can hardly climb out of the pool. After a 5-day pregnisone pack and gabapentin I was dancing in the aisles of the stores shopping and I started my inside painting project. 8 days later the pain in my legs returned, foot neuropathy and leg spasms and horrible cramps returned. I am back on the Calm drink, 1-gabapentin at night and cold shower to calm my legs along with ice packs on my lumbar. I know there is a lot going on with my body, but I am a very active person, work full-time work at home job and I take care of my paralyzed husband. I am now going to try the Swanson Olive Leaf extract and L-Lysine (both 500 mg) twice a day.
