How can I quit my paroxetine without going through hell 😖😖😖

Posted by mayalitpascal4444 @mayalitpascal4444, Jun 17 4:45am

Please tell me what should I do, I have been taking paroxetine for over a year first it was 37.5mg and later on it became 50mg. Every time when I talk with someone or with my family they will just tell me to go and take my meds and that I’m crazy or psycho. I’m just 17 years old and I’m really really tired I don’t know what to do. Should I just quit it? But I’m really really scared of what will happen to me afterwards.

I’m so sorry that you’re feeling this way about your medication, is Peroxitine causing you bad side effects? It’s very normal to have anxiety about being on medication, I’m so much older than you and I have the same issues, sometimes we have problems with anxiety and depression and they can be scary too especially when you feel like you have no control over what you’re feeling. I believe that we’re fortunate to have these meds in our world, they have helped millions of people, young and old to get through terrible times and turn their lives around, they get better every day and gain more control of their lives again, imagine how hard it must have been long ago when they had really very few medications to help them. It’s a journey that you are going through and it will take time to heal and be able to cope with your life again. I hope that you have support from others to talk to that are going through the same thing, it’s very helpful and rewarding, remember that you are not alone and when you feel that you need to talk, coming here will be a great place to start with your journey back to health and happiness.

I also wanted to say that family members are not always the best people to go to for support, they have their own way of how they see you and can’t always be objective about what you are feeling. Reach out to the people who understand what you’re feeling and they don’t have any preconceived opinions about you, sometimes the people closest to you don’t really know you that well enough, speak to your doctor and ask for advice with support groups to help you cope, best wishes.

More often than not we think the solution to health problems is -- of course -- seeing a healthcare prof'l, who so often prescribes a medication.
But we are not beings who have Medical problems most of the time -- I am talking both from the knowledge that we all gain over eight decades of life in which I have never used meds, and rarely seen my doctor (last time over ten+ years ago) but using time on matters most important to me, all within a modest income that gives me most healthy food each day for under ten dollars. And exercise is free! You'll also sleep well to start the day in top gear.

Many of our pains and illnesses start because we have a life that is short on what makes for a Good Life. Our governments help us to become useful (to ourselves And to society) by providing free education. I suppose you are gaining such education. And so you may have also learnt that as humans, we live our best when we by 18 (earlier in other societies) are able to live such life that is good not only for ourselves but also For OTHERS. It's also called a PURPOSEful life, one that makes you spend your most precious gift, time, in ways that will give you good health and a feeling that YOU Matter.
The opposite is true too: WE Suffer when we do not try to live such lives. It's nature's way of reminding us to get back quickly on the right track. Not listening to it will deepen your woes.

So let's hear what do YOU will like to do with this life of Yours? Life's opening up to you and there will be falls to teach us. To start again, and again

Keep us posted -- we here are to help each other.

Thank you so much for your understanding and saying such nice words to me🙏 But even my doctor doesn’t understand me a few weeks ago I went to him and told him that I’m going through a very difficult time and I almost even attempted suicide and a few time I took a lot of capsules and sleeping pills but he just smiled at me and said nothing and just increased my meds from 37.5mg to 50mg and at home my family tells me that I’m a very good girl but something that I lack is that I take meds and if I stop it I will be even more better but I don’t know what to do 😔😔

I don’t know what to do cause I have always been in a situation that I must do stuff that are good for my family or I always have to do stuff that I don’t want. Cause every time that I get a little bit happy in life I feel like that it’s not the right thing and I feel if I’m happy then I stay unaware of my life or I became ignorant cause sorrow and sadness and anxiety had been like responsibility for me. And it’s been about two or three years since I’m not going to school and last year because of financial problems I started working in a factory and it was very very difficult now I’m all lost and feel so much bad about myself and feel behind. A few times I even wanted to end my life but I couldn’t do it😔. Thank you for your help and nice words. I found this site a few days ago and by talking to you guys I feel like there are some people who will hear me and understand me. Because everyone around me is COMPLETELY NORMAL and the only mental ill person is me and I’m all weird according to them and a psycho.

Your top post says you are on antidepressant [AD for short] for over a year but want to quit using it, even though AD are prescribed BECAUSE you had a health issue that needed fixing. So I suppose we at least know WHY you need to USE IT. Apparently, your life was WORSE Before its use, right? So we can agree that the use of AD need to continue, for now, as your doc and family, both wish to primarily FOR YOUR GOOD, but also for those around you, mainly the family, and the place of your work. So we agree so far, right?

It was from this understanding that I wrote back that if you would like to explore how one might wean off of this AD, presumably because of its bad side effects, I had asked you why not Start with Healthier Lifestyle such as balanced food and physical activity. But it is also true that the depressed have MOST difficulty with such lifestyle changes. It is for this reason I mention how Purpose in Life is crucial.

I understand finding a purposeful life at 17 may be asking too much too early but the reason I said it because without ANY sense of direction a life can easily morph into wrong or harmful directions. Knowing that you are working and thus contributing to the family that raised you, you ARE doing what is a good, responsible, and therefore, in GENERAL, has a positive effect on you and those around you.

In your case, when u say, “I don’t know what to do cause I have always been in a situation that I must do stuff that are good for my family or I always have to do stuff that I don’t want.”I hope you agree what is “good for family” is Also Good For You. Right? After all, you all together are sharing the cost of shelter/roof-over-head, and perhaps food.

Regarding your next issue in the same para above, “or I always have to do stuff that I don’t want”Can you be specific what are those? After all, in our life, we all have to sometimes do what we do Not like, cleaning floor, doing dishes, being patient with tantrums of babies and adults. I am sure you mother have had the same feeling you mention. Lol!

So what am I supposed to do. Even after deciding that I would quit my meds I take them everyday with the fear of getting my withdrawal symptoms. And about a healthy lifestyle that you mentioned, I am trying everything to make it healthy like for example I’m exercising and trying to start my studies at least as much as i can.

Does the Paxil help ease your depression or panic attacks? It is difficult to get off the drug, but if it's helping you, why would you want to stop?

I've been taking it since 2002. I did try taper down and got to 20mg/day, and that's when bad feelings came back. I just went back to me previous dose.

All the best to you.

Family members have all got their own reasons for giving advice and support. However they are not qualified to help you with this situation because they are not trained in dealing with the help and advice you need.
Trust in the people who know what they’re doing and have experience.
My husband takes 60mg daily and he would not function well without them. We are all very different- I would recommend following your doctor’s advice and you’ll have a wonderful future ahead of you. Good luck
