Experience trying over the counter lithium oronate 5mg daily?
I understand physicians not suggesting this. But given the very limited options for AD, it seems worth trying now for a current person with AD and not waiting another 5-10 years for the proper medical trials. Any experience good or bad would be very helpful. Thanks.

My son, who is a clinical trial director for a drug company, happened to send me the following article just yesterday. I plan to ask my husband's neurologist about lithium usage when we meet with him later this month.

The more I search for lithium orinate supplement the more studies I find. Unfortunately conducting proper studies are very expensive and drug companies can't make any money off of lithium urinate. I doubt our neurologist will bless its use. They have their protocols and will no doubt stick to them. I'll update this forum next week.
Psychiatrists are the docs who prescribe lithium mostly. Maybe a limited consultation would be useful.
I want to give an update about lithium orotate after my husband an I visited with his neurologist today. He agreed that taking the 5 mg OTC capsule was worth a try for his memory loss. The doctor also said the lithium might help with my husband's mood swings, which have gotten more pronounced lately. The local Walgreen's doesn't carry lithium orotate, but I was able to order it online from Walmart.
Coincidentally, while a lumbar puncture, MRIs and blood tests have all indicated my husband's dementia is due to Alzheimer's, a recent PET scan didn't indicate that. The neurologist pointed out that a previous assessment by a neuropsychologist found that my husband had mild cognitive impairment that could be frontotemporal dementia (FTD) slightly atypical for Alzheimer's disease. Therefore, the neurologist is now diagnosing my husband with mixed dementia, with both FTD and Alzheimer's.
With FND there is a higher chance of needing mood stabilizing meds than with Alzheimer’s, just fyi
That's very positive for me. I plan to start Lithium Orotate as soon as i complete weaning off Sertraline. I was on a low dose so it wont take long.
I hope you can keep us posted - and I will do the same.
Truth. I had a good friend with that. And I believe that is what Robin Williams had.
What does FND stand for?
I misspoke. I meant FTD, frontotemporal dementia
Lithium orinate update.
My significant other, age 82 was officially diagnosed with Alzheimers a month ago. Last Nov an mri indicated a high probability of it. Medication started then was 28 mg memantine. During a followup appt in Feb 2025 5 mg of donepezil was prescribed. It was increased to 10mg in May. Blood tests confirmed Alz. She has a PET CT Amyloid scan scheduled for Oct 2. Based on the findings of that scan a previous info she will began infusions of Leqembi in Dec . Meanwhile I, on my own, have continued to review all Li orinate I can find. She
has started taking 10mg tablets two weeks ago. There have been no observable side effects. She will continue on them and if there are changes I will report back. Right now the memory issues are primarily short term and repetitions.
