No. My AMD did not turn wet while on AREDS. It has been dry and stable since before starting the AREDS. And, as I described in an earlier post on this thread, about six months after I stopped taking the AREDS, both my optometrist and my retinal specialist opthal. independently told me my AMD had very slightly improved from the year before.
Yes,so i tried the chewable version but developed an allergic reaction...then I switched to ProVision AREDS2. These are capsules not the gels and I have had no side effects.
I don't think it's the AREDS2 causing my stomach issues. Never thought of that though. Here's something interesting. My eye surgeon and his clinic really stress taking AREDS2 twice a day. I'm asked each time if I'm taking the supplement. The answer is Yes. However, I mentioned that I took two weeks off because I didn't have any left and I felt my eyes weren't the same. Not quite as good as when taking them, or something, but different. The technician laughed and said "Oh, it's probably just the Placebo Effect. " The surgeon then came in and the discussion stopped. I go back in a week for the six month check after cataract surgeries and will try to get more information from the many people I see before the surgeon comes in and ask him also. Is AREDS2 just a placebo effect? Yes, I've read the study reports before I started and even today. I'm extremely confused.

AREDS2 is not a placebo effect. The technician was likely joking about your "seeing" that your eyes were "not quite as good" as when on AREDs. The placebo effect would be more your perceived symptoms or lack thereof. Did your eyes "return" once back on AREDS2?

Yes, my eyes felt better and he said again it's just a placebo effect. I see the surgeon in a couple of weeks for a follow up and I'll discreetly ask him about it. I definitely feel a good difference when I take them 1-2 times a day. The assistant is imperfect like all of us. But, like I said, I'll ask the surgeon. And I never see the same assistant when I go in. Thanks for the reply!
Stopped taking the AREDS 2 vitamins and after at least 18 months it f misery I appear to be doing better. 3 weeks of formed stools. Amazing.
Several years back I was living in Saudi Arabia and had a similar experience. Happened to hear Dr Dean Adel on the radio saying that some people do not tolerate the glucosamine portion of the glucosamine and chondroitin portion of those arthritis supplements. Same results. Stopped taking it and my belly calmed down.
The amount of zinc in AREDS2 is excessive and possibly toxic. Zinc toxicity can cause copper deficiency, but copper is supplied in AREDS2.
If you’re experiencing the symptoms of possible zinc toxicity, you should consult your physician.
Taking too much zinc can cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, and headaches. Chronic excessive intake may lead to copper deficiency and impaired immune function.
