Anxiety and frustration after cardioversion after 3rd ablation

Posted by ev1 @ev1, Apr 30, 2023

I had my 3rd ablation in January for afib. All was great until yesterday morning when I woke up in fast afib. I was so angry which of course didn't help. I went to A& E and I was cardioverted after a few hours. All grand again. How do I stop the anxiety & frustration and of course the worry? I really don't want a 4th ablation. Could it be that I am still healing after January's ablation.?Any little pice of advice would be appreciated.

I had my third ablation on February 9 . I have had 6 episodes of a fib since, lasting only 2 days each. My heart rate has been 120 to 130 each time so I did not have to go onto the hospital. There is a so called " blanking period " of 3 months or so where the heart is healing so a fib can and might come back. Medication might help. I am back to exercising now and feel that it is probably healed now.
Take care....

It was explained to me that after my recent ablation there might be a "blanking period" of up to three months during which some arrhythmias might persist. I would consult your medical team about your symptoms as they may want to monitor remotely or adjust your medications. Good Luck.

Thank you so much for your reply and lovely to hear that you are feeling well. It certainly is consolation knowing that this might be just the blanking period. Fingers crossed that's what it is. Again thank you so much.

You are very welcome. It has been a challenging journey thru the years, especially trying to figure the triggers, some which work and a lot that don't.

I was told that it is nothing I do brings on the fast afib. Like you I wore myself out trying to figure out what causes it. Sometimes I thought it was the position I lay in bed🤣. It is the anxiety of it all. I am 61 years old and worry that this is going to be my life. I just get back on track, back to gym etc and my head is in a good place when off it goes again. Sorry for complaining but it's just the way I feel at the moment. Just frustrated.....I'm sure you understand. Let's see what cardiologist says on the 19th.

Hello. I’m so sorry you are having Afib after 3 ablations. I feel your heart is still healing. I’m new at this because I found out a few months ago I had Afib after going through a few attacks for about 6 month and a couple of over nights stays at my he hospital. It was finally found that I had Afib. I was put on a medication called sotalol that didn’t work for me.My cardiologist the said he thought an ablation would b the he next step. I had a he ablation on march 28- 2023.Everything went well.zI stayed overnight in the hospital. In next couple of weeks starting when I got home from the hospital. My heart starting flipping and went on for couple of weeks. I’m a lady that has dealt with panic and anxiety for years.25 years ago I learned to deal with it but because I had so much anxiety I started having PVC’s.After years of trying to deal with them I asked my Dr. For help, I was put on beta blockers, they helped do much,T I’ve been on them since 2001.I guess that shouldn’t have be a surprise when they started up so fast. The Doctor also cut the beta blockers back to 25 mg to twice a day when I was taking a 50 mg a day. I did go back to 50 mg a day and that helps. The next 2 weeks my heart seem to be doing better and I thought I was on the way to recovery. I have had so much anxiety with this ablation and I started to get depressed and crying a lot so when it started looking up for me.You can imagine how happy I was. Then my heart started missing beats..,the pvc’s that went o most of the day and then my heart racing so bad. I took my pulse it was 134 a minute. I was so upset. I called my doctor told him I upped my medication and was taking some Xanax which I had on hand for anxiety attacks. I felt so bad but My Precious lord is seeing me through this. I still believe the ablation is going to work while my heart is healing, sits only been 5 weeks since the ablations. I go see the Doctor next week to see if maybe another medication may help with my heart healsI hope this helps knowing you’re not alone.God bless

I do find that prayer helps dealing with the unknown future of a fib . There are some medications being tested , particularly one that is for diabetes . It has similar bio markers for a fib, so hopefully it will pass the tests and be available in the near future.
I find that breathing exercises that are directly related to a form of meditation help with anxiety. I would recommend reading the book " Breathe " that is a best seller. Amazing story and in depth exercises for breathing that are unique.

Thank you so much. I too suffer from panic attacks & anxiety but I really do think it's the fear of the unknown etc. I take metacor 25mgs 4 times daily. I pray that my heart is still healing & I have to learn to relax when I am in an episode. Easier said then done. Thank you again. Lovely to hear from you.
