High Cholesterol: how do you control it?
I have very unusual cholesterol scores. Both are high. My Doctor says not to worry because the good is high and outweighs the bad. Here are the numbers cholesterol is 270 LDL is. 164 HDL 70.6. Do I just not worry like my Doctor said? Any ideas?

I read that even fasting for 16-18 hours can break a vicious cycle of insulin resistance. If it's true, that's kind of amazing I think. And the medical establishment might be able to start some permanent changes in patients by educating about, and supporting, fasting therapies. For the cynics that point out that Big Pharma would hate and fight it, I'll anti with a thought that Big Insurance might love it tho'.
I should tweak my comment by suggesting that the fasting can 'interrupt" the insulin resistance vicious cycle. But any interruption could trigger a changed future for people who foresee a life of endless drugs otherwise.
I eat a serving of oatmeal a day to lower my cholesterol. My cholesterol was 284 and the oatmeal brought it down to 209. I cannot take statins. It does take some time to see numbers go down.

Foods like tofu, lentils, beans, soy milk, eggplant, okra, oatmeal, barley, nut butters, almonds, walnuts (all nuts) have a cholesterol lowering effect.
I have high cholesterol. Could not tolerate statins. Was untreated until Repatha came along. Injection which I give myself 2x/week.

I'm feeling virtuous-ish as I made a promise to myself (and those self-to-self promises have a spotty track record, lol) to eat one large meal of just vegetables every day. Fruit being allowed as desert. I'm not fond of most cooked vegetables but have been drinking smoothies out of the stuff. I found that some chunks of apple or frozen mango make anything taste good.
My theory is that, I can at least partially crowd out* poorer food choices every day and aim for at least progress. The NutriBullet thing could probably puree a smal car so it's my best friend for tougher-fibered produce.
I dealt with breast cancer last fall (tiny and lumpectomy only) and read a ton of peer-reviewed studies found on Google Scholar and was alarmed at how much a role diet can play. But I mostly care that the smoothies are delicious and a fast meal.
*I've always liked Gresham's Law in economics and modified it to "good food drives out bad." But I really do just feel better knowing that, no matter what else I do that day, I ate one large intelligent meal.
Good morning, I have high cholesterol also. My late husband also had his oatmeal every morning. I used to make a oatmeal pudding with eggs, milk, oatmeal.I put cinnamon , and microwave for 10-12 min. I wish you well on this journey of life.
@callaloo I likewise do the smoothies with veggies and blueberries , banana usually. I but greens freeze them then add to smoothies .

I also add a clump of leftover oatmeal when making fruit-and-protein-powder breakfast smoothie. And cinnamon when I remember. This may be the only way I can eat breakfast consistently so it's a big help.
