Welcome @bogie60. It's tough to find others when you have a rare cancer type like cutaneous B-cell lymphoma. Hopefully by starting this discussion others will join in.

In the meantime, you might be interested in experiences of fellow members @cindylb, @carlos12 @vonbaron36 @taddyp who have experience with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma
- Cutaneous T Cell Lymphoma https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/cutaneous-t-cell-lymphoma/

@grandpabob had large B cell lymphoma and I'm also bringing @loribmt into the discussion.

While we wait for others to join in, Bogie, can you tell me a bit more about you? Did you have surgery and then radiation or is radiation the first treatment you've had? How are you doing? Any side effects?

Thank you for connecting . My cancer showed up on my nose , and surgery was not an option ecstatically . I did finish 15 radiation session and didn’t have dramatic side effects. Fatigue, anxiety, a lot of bloody nose during the day , open wound inside my nose . I am better now , my nose is healing and this morning for the first time in weeks I felt happy . I enjoyed my cup of coffee and I drove around admiring the surroundings. I do Real Estate for living , and I am very busy . I was diagnosed 6 months ago , and sometimes I don’t think it really sink into me my new reality. I am changing my diet , but I have hard time going on a 100% plant based diet . The sad part is that I realized , all this cancer thing , it’s a lonely journey. Maybe that’s why I joined this group . To relate to other people with the same disease. Thank you for reaching out . Let’s keep the conversation going . Thank you

Good morning, @bogie60 Reading through your message this morning, I couldn’t help but smile when I got to the part, “I’m better now…for the first time in weeks, I felt happy.”

I know and appreciate that moment in a cancer journey. It’s that feeling you get on the first warm day of spring when you can drive around with your car windows open, fresh air on your face, singing along at the top of your lungs to Whitesnake’s, Here I Go Again on my Own! That was my moment of joy when I realized I was past the worst. I’m very happy for you that your treatment has been successful, you’re healing and moving forward.

I don’t share your similar cancer but I did some research on B-cell lymphoma. While no one wants anything to do with the Big C, you are fortunate that it is localized to your skin and generally doesn’t spread. But I’m sure it was a huge shock and something like that really shakes a person to the core.

With your plant-based diet, are you receiving help and guidance through a nutritionist to get started?
With your @bogie60 name. Are you a golfer?

Lol no I am not a golfer . It’s a nobile sport but I found it extremely boring. I swim quite often, water relaxes me great deal . Probably I had a good time in my mom belly . If I could I would sleep at the bottom of the ocean . I am not currently working with a nutritionist but I am considering. All this is very new to me as you can imagine , so I am still processing the whole thing. You mentioned that my treatment has been successful. I don’t know that yet . I am scheduled to see the radiologist end of March . But I will take that from you . Yes indeed I am lucky it showed on my nose ( My God what other better place is there ) and indeed the prognosis is very good . Thank you for reaching out . Thank you

I guess success in cancer treatment is a relative term, isn’t it. I tend to be a Pollyanna and look for the positive outcome. 🙃 But your cancer type does high degree of response to radiation so I’m really hoping that all is well and this is indeed successful.
I’m not a golfer either! There were a lot of attempts with friends and family but it just isn’t my thing. I agree, it was a little boring for my taste and activity level. Not to mention too much performance anxiety with 3 other people tapping toe behind me.
Was it suggested for you to try a plant based diet? It’s not easy making an abrupt lifestyle change. It might be worth getting some assistance from a nutritionist and easing into it slowly, introducing more fruits, veggies, whole grains and non-meat proteins into your diet a little a time.
I know we have a few discussion on Connect related to the plant based diet.
I typed Plant Based Diet in the search option and this is what I came up with. https://connect.mayoclinic.org/search/?search=Plant+based+diet

You might be able to trace some of those conversations and direct your questions so some of our members who are involved with a vegetarian diet.
Do you have any newly found and maybe favorite veggie dishes that surprised you?

I like to add figs in my salads , never use commercial dressings . Always olive oil and fresh lemons . Avocado mango feta cheese etc . The baby broccoli I love to sauté them in garlic and butter with fresh mushrooms and cherry tomatoes with a little bit of heavy cream over pasta . Great dish . Ok will look at your link . Thank you

@bogie60, I think you might also appreciate joining some of the discussions or starting a new one in the Cancer: Managing Symptoms group: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/cancer-managing-symptoms/

While you started this discussion to connect with others with your exact and rare tumor type, the feelings and goals you have are shared (dare I say universal) to cancer survivors. Like @loribmt, I'm focusing on two statements you made 1) all this cancer thing , it’s a lonely journey and 2) this morning for the first time in weeks I felt happy.

Here are a few discussions that I think you may wish to contribute to:

Today I had a terrible panic attack. Mine are few hrs long with a racing heart and trembling. After the radiation I had 3 attacks and all 3 they were different that what I was used to . Few weeks ago while in treatment I had 2 shots of epidural with steroids due to a car accident back in December. After the shots both in the same day , I had a toxic reaction. My heart went 150 beats / minute , my head was spinning and my face was red red red . Do you remember the tomatoes festival in Spain , when people are fighting by throwing ripe tomatoes to each other. That’s how my face looked like . Does anyone has increased anxiety after the radiation treatment? Is it fair to say it’s a side effect of the treatment? Thank you

Bogie, whether a side effect of radiation or cancer itself, have you considered seeking professional advice to help manage the panic attacks?

Do you know about oncology social worker? These may be members of your cancer team that you can talk to about where and help to get resources. Here’s some more information:
– How an Oncology Social Worker Can Help https://connect.mayoclinic.org/blog/cancer-education-center/newsfeed-post/how-an-oncology-social-worker-can-help/

Or if you prefer or also to work on your on own there’s this free course here from Mayo Clinic
- Stress Management for Cancer: Free online course from Mayo https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/stress-management-for-cancer-free-online-course-from-mayo/

Panic attacks are no fun.
