How do you deal with dry eyes?

I have dry eyes due to sjogren's syndrome. Does anyone else deal with dry eyes?

@patriciao

@peach414144 I had the burning and constant irritation from Restasis. I guess we just have to keep trying until we find (hopefully) the remedy that we can live with.

@patriciao Did you try keeping them in refrigerator?

REPLY

@lioness Yes, I guess my eyes just didn’t like them. That’s just me. I have trouble too with some oral prescription meds for other medical issues that millions of people take without a problem.

@patricio Im on Latanaprest also for Glucoma @they burn so put in fridge cool on eyeball

I also have Sjogren's Syndrome - I use GenTeal drops, for moderate-severe dryness.

Depends I think on the cause. I have severe dry eye due to autoimmune issues and that is not very common.

I have severe dry eyes from autoimmune diseases also. Couldn’t use Restasis or Xiidra because they burned so bad. I’m trying Cequa. The drops don’t burn, but I’m trying to decide if the Xiidra May have helped dryness more.

Good evening @bbjones, Welcome, big time, to Connect. I am so sorry that you suffer from dry eyes? Do you live in an arid climate?

20 years in the mountains of Southern California.....have done a number on my eyes. I have tried it all......Restasis to Xiidra. Lots of work on the Meibomian glands to keep them from drying up. Heating elements, warm eye patches and gallons of eye gel, ointments, and warm compounds.

A year ago, I moved to a much more humid environment.....and that in itself has helped immeasurably. Even with higher humidity, I still use Xiidra and find it more effective than Restasis ever was. Here's the secret. You need to keep these medications in the refrigerator so they don't sting. Then remember to use the gels, 30 minutes or so after the Xiidra treatment. Try it....it works.

May you be free of suffering and the causes of suffering.
Have you asked your ophthalmologist for assistance?

We live in Southeast Georgia where it is very humid. I see my Rheumatologist every 3 mo and go to a ophthalmologist that specializes in dry eye. I also have RA. My right eye keeps getting inflamed and I am currently am using lotemax again to try to calm it down. I have tried restasis , Xiidra, and currently on Cequa, but I am going back to Xiidra after using the lotemax 1 week. I think it is better than Cequa. I am going to keep it in frig to help with burning. The ophthalmologist told me Monday that my tear glands are producing at all and my corneas are severely dry all caused by Sjögren. I ordered the Bruder mask after reading on this site and am hoping it it help. Thanks for reaching out.

I just tried Cequa and it does not work as well for me as Xiidra. My Dr told me Xiidra is more powerful so I’m going back to using it but keeping in frig to help with burning 🤞
