Entire spine hurts - Due to Fibromyalgia?

Posted by frustrated47 @frustrated47, Dec 5, 2018

Hi. I am a 47 year old female, diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2004. Now my entire spine hurts from scull to SI joints. I have 3 bulging disks cervical, 4 disks lumbar, 2 thorasic. My lower back feels like it's being crushed all the time. all the nerves in my legs hurt. I have muscle spasms, stiffness, joint pain, nerve pain, degenerative risk disease, and I can hardly walk. Sitting kills me!
Been on lyrica many years. I'm wondering if anyone out there is going through this with fibro. My doctors are saying all these symptoms are caused from fibro but I'm not convinced.

I only take ibuprofen for all pain, refuse opieds. And others, these work great for all pain. Just broke right ankle can't stand for 2 months in rehab, stopped ibuprofen handling pain, but for all pain take 2-3 at a time, rheumatologist said I can take 14 in a day, most taken is 5. I take lyrica for severe tingling in right arm, cutting back to one pill a day. I gained 25 lbs when started I 2005. Lyrica does not touch anything else not even the fibro, diagnosed in 84. I ignore it have to, have 4 scary rare diseases, 5 autoimmunes and epilepsy voice tremors only take one depakote., Severe fingers tremors can't test diabetes, osteoporosis started fosamax again, it can hurt your kidneys, but fractures scare me now, Dr said break ankle again(broke twice) will never walk again. have the lottery of life. Just read on autoimmune web site that fibro is Not an autoimmune it seems to pair up with other autoimmunes. My kidney Dr said hopefully in 10 yrs they will figure out all this mess I have. Been going to a DO Dr they specialize in manipulations, she does gentle ones, no pain but in 15 mins she fixes back pain for a couple of months, til it slides back. It's amazing what she does and how it works. I had a cortisone shot didn't help, then 8 shots at once in lower back awful pain, pain Dr said hold still, didnt help, then another cortisone that helped.

I'm glad you are going to a DO Dr I do too .How did you stand 8shots that Dr should be tarred and feathered .With my back problems a hot shower really helps and I use pain rubs all over my back I found a long handeled backbrush with padding on end I use of course I am a widow like I mentioned before ice bag and heating pad are my friends. I'm taking a high dose magnesium supplement too actually - only this is termed "leg cramp" supplement. According to the pharmacist it can assist in sleeping ...while I have restless legs as the primary issue, I also have been diagnosed at Mayo with fibro (which I may have mentioned before) and chronic fatigue. However, if I can sleep my fibro can go up to two-three months without a flare if I take care. Without sleep it feels like everything goes downhill fast. I too like to use ice and hot showers or baths; however, I haven't thought of the closely timed heat and ice regime. Thanks for that tip!

@suercreader My chiropractor said 15-20 minutes ice followed by heat rest a little in between. I was there today and he first puts the tens on to relax my muscles with ice on top being ice is a anti inflammatory this helps to take the swelling down first from the tissues and whatever else is swollen. I use it all the time at home and love it for its comfort

Thank you again lioness - you are so prompt and thorough with your answers. I appreciate that. I have heard that a tens unit might help with restless legs . . . they also give you relief with other muscles? Where exactly does your chiropractor put the tens?

@suecreader I love to help people and since I,ve experience these problems one way or the other I'm glad to help. The Tens unit has 4 pads he applies. He puts 2 around the bra area then 2 in the scareal area or lower back. then adjust them to your comfort I accidentally added more stem to it and felt my muscles twitch , to much . then he puts ice on top for 10 minutes. Mine at home is for 15 minutes . Also today since my neck was giving me problems he put 2 at the base of neck then 2 base of skull on either side . I really love my chiropractor don't know what I,d do without him. With the legs you can apply at thigh then lower . But my recommendation for RLS is drinking a swallow of dill pickle juice sounds crazy but the vinegar in it relaxes the muscles. A friend of mine when out carry,s mustard packets and takes , that's a little much for me.

Oh wow - that even sounds like it would be comforting and give you relief. I crave salt sometime so it is interesting that you mention pickle juice. . . I happen to eat quite a bit of pickles. I am willing to try anything for a reduction in symptoms.

Dear Lionness: Peach here. I wonder why so many people do not accept Chiropractic? They also do not refer to them as doctors. The spinal cord affects the entire body, organs, nerves, etc. I myself and many others have been helped by them when the other doctors could not. Think more respect is needed for them. peach over and out!

@peach414144 Goodmorning Peach It is a shame more people don't go before they need a medical Dr. Chiropractors dont give you a script like the Dr,s as they help the drug companies out ,know what I mean.

Yes, it is true. The sour dill pickles are delicious and beneficial for the body. Just a little bit will do it.
