Our Pets Bring Us Joy

Posted by judimahoney @judimahoney, Oct 4 5:58pm

In so many posts folks share, pets come up a lot.
I thought I'd start a new topic where we can share photos of our pets, furry, scaly, whatever.
Bonus points if they're in a Halloween costume. 🎃
This is our rescue, Freja. She is an Australian Cattle Dog (and we have no cattle).
She has become my therapy dog with no training, she just knows when I'm upset and comes to me.
As they say, who rescued whom?

My mom with advanced dementia, is really enjoying her robotic cat named "Peaches". It is very interactive with her. Petting, holding, brushing and speaking with the cat (cat talks back) gives mom a lot of comfort. No feeding and no litterbox and this is perfect for her.

My husband has the robotic dog. It's really cute and interactive, and it goes to sleep when inactive.

Here is a photo of our sweet Betty White who passed away a year ago at age 12. I miss her every day.

@judimahoney Definitely not a pet but a part of our lives. They eat my flowerbeds and graze the lawn but that is how it is. That's why we fenced the backyard--so I could have some other plants AND let the dog go out (when she was living) without supervision .

Mayo in Rochester is 90 miles from home, so when my daughter and I have to be there for more than two days we need to take "Pops" with us to our hotel. He is a Colorpoint Shorthair maniac with one brain cell, and a menace to society. But we adore him. Here's a photo of him exploring our hotel room. This goes on all night and it nearly drives us insane, but it's cheaper than boarding him. Medical bills are stacking up, our GoFundMe has reached its zenith and is tapering down, and we need to watch our money.
He's a Very Good Boy, except when he's not!

@judimahoney He's a handful, but he's *our* handful! The Beast only comes out at night. We're trying him on some topical kitty Prozac to help him with what seem to be genuine night terrors. We think he must've been weaned too early and he has lots of fear and anxiety. But he's mostly our Beautiful Boy and we love him very much.

I wonder if he had a pet, like a soft, stuffed animal, something he could nurture to comfort himself?
We had a cat who used to suck on the fur of a teddy bear we had. It helped calm her though. 😌

I would probably be committed if I didn't have my "little" (105 lb) English Lab. We have great discussions (he's an awesome listener) and puts me right to sleep when he sleeps with me. Because my wife doesn't know me, I am a stranger to her and have to sleep in the spare bedroom with Norm.

@tunared I will show you our new uninvited visitor. This morning I was going to water my big hoya kerri plant and a pink nose popped out. I screamed. I ran to get my long BBQ tongs and pulled away some branches of leaves. Here is my new pet, George Jones. Not really but I do have an odd sense of humor.
