How many times?
Loss55 again..
Has anyone had a respite happen in their Alzheimer’s spouse delusions when everything settled into a more normal life for a week and then, it all reverts back to the craziness of Alzheimer’s?
For over a week my wife acted almost normal at night no major blowups or delusions. Then the ugly I stole her tweezers came out of the dark and reared its ugly head again. Why tweezers I have no idea, really not a clue. She refuses to leave them in the same place, in the same container or in the same room. Last week it was a search for 3 days all the time accusing me of taking them until she found them in a coat pocket. Tonight I got no respite as she was positive I took them until I found them in a dresser drawer in a little cloth bag. Of course I put them there! Now as much as I try to control my temper I blew my top there’s just so much a person can take!!
We suspect she is in stage 4 . Does anyone with someone in later stages have a similar experience? Is this on and off a sign of further decline.
I am so confused. Dealing with this starting with the warning signs 6 years ago has worn me out.

@kjc48 Dear Karla, you’re always here, helping others! Thanks for that.
Yes, in addition to what many are facing, you have had the added stress of living in a rental, dealing with mold and contractors, living out of boxes, etc. I find I can handle 2 “events” (appointments or whatever) per day and that’s it, on top of handling “life” for two by myself. Like you, not trying to whine, but I so appreciate the love and support from you and others here…so whining once in awhile is OK, I think. I had 2 younger sisters, both of whom have passed away, so this morning I sent a note to my kids, reminding them to stay close to each other. 💕Again, many thanks for writing back. It’s a sunny, crisp Autumn morning. I’ll pull on my big-girl pants, try to align my scattered thoughts and have a good day! You, too!

I am so sorry you are feeling blue. Do you have anything to look forward to in the short term? Can you call a friend? Take yourselves out for a coffee or something as a pick me up? An indulgent dessert or beverage? Read for a few minutes or watch a funny movie? Sometimes we have to get creative to get out of our funk. Take care and wishing you a bit of joy. ☺️

4 Reactions@2me I'm sorry you lost two younger sisters and I applaud you for wanting your kids to stay close. I'm in a blended family, and I"m always trying to encourage my only son from a previous marriage to engage with my husband's sons. All we can go is just forge, and say, You got this. I heard something yesterday on the radio, that God is still writing our story, We just need to turn over the pen. I need to turn over the pen! Thanks for the support back, this morning.

5 Reactions@judimahoney I think the feeling blue is being overwhelmed. I'm trying to close out on this remodel, on the cost, on the selections, on all the things that ahve been challenges along the way. The pressure of getting it finished, and right so I can sell it for the price, is been way too much. Something I never anticipated to this degree. And there have been so many issues with workman, that got picked up by ICE and put in jail, hence not working on our job, billing issues, missing in action workers, continuum of invoices that keep getting billed even when workers aren't there - and then the MCI, caregiving and now Eddie is sick and I'm worried it's something greater than just what we are normally dealing with. I worry about these infusions, and the effect - he's in the 27th infusion now. The indulgent dessert you describe is the little package of rice pudding that I'm now eating for breakfast, and the pirate's bouty packages. OMG, I'm working getting out of the funk. And I did call out to a friend. and you answered. As always. Thank you, Judi.

Karla,
We all get down it’s human nature. Caring for someone with this disease is a real “downer.”
When I recognized what was going to be the future (two years ago) I persuaded my wife to get another dog. (Said we wouldn’t do it again but)
Our doodle is crazy and loving and a great source of comfort, and s lot of work. But, she draws my wife’s attention in her bad times and it’s hard to be mad at a doodle.
Find something that will work for you it’s out there.

9 Reactions@lost55 Yes, yes and yes. Our mother goes thru phases of being “calm” and predictable until she enters her ‘alter ego’ we have named “Badge”, as in honey badger🦡 . She turns into a mean & difficult, stubborn, angry personality and it’s exhausting. (she demands we find her tweezers also & do her beard!) Lately it cycles a lot more frequently. Maybe part of dementia processes? Perhaps this is due to change of season? Less daylight?
Whatever it is, you’re not alone in navigating the multiple personas of dementia. Give yourself grace for the frustration. Take deep breaths and remind yourself it’s not her, it’s the disease.

6 Reactions@lost55 I love that. Once I get out of this rental townhome, I'm getting another little minnie schnauzer. I also love crazy doodles. Both would work!
Thanks for caring and sharing.

Ha , haven’t given my wife’s alter ego a name just use the green face crazy when texting with my sisters if she is in an Alzheimer’s mood!
Her mother who had Alzheimer’s was the same way. Something like the old mean drunk.

This is the movie script for The Perfect Storm, right?
Wishing you some respite, a long break that probably won't happen (unless you have a vivid imagination).
Sorry, too about the hassles with workers, etc.
You've dealt with enough already, your good karma needs to kick in now. We'd love to hear some good news from you, Karla. 🤞
