How many times?
Loss55 again..
Has anyone had a respite happen in their Alzheimer’s spouse delusions when everything settled into a more normal life for a week and then, it all reverts back to the craziness of Alzheimer’s?
For over a week my wife acted almost normal at night no major blowups or delusions. Then the ugly I stole her tweezers came out of the dark and reared its ugly head again. Why tweezers I have no idea, really not a clue. She refuses to leave them in the same place, in the same container or in the same room. Last week it was a search for 3 days all the time accusing me of taking them until she found them in a coat pocket. Tonight I got no respite as she was positive I took them until I found them in a dresser drawer in a little cloth bag. Of course I put them there! Now as much as I try to control my temper I blew my top there’s just so much a person can take!!
We suspect she is in stage 4 . Does anyone with someone in later stages have a similar experience? Is this on and off a sign of further decline.
I am so confused. Dealing with this starting with the warning signs 6 years ago has worn me out.

1 Reaction@handsdown Thank you for this interesting link. My husband was recently referred to our local Palliative Care program. I believe it will be very helpful. When he had a medical issue a couple of weeks ago, a nurse practitioner actually made a house call! Who does that anymore! I feel supported.

Yup, agreed. Yesterday I just kept walking by the dirty dishes piling up. Where is that darn maid? 🤭🫠
I cleaned up when I was mentally ready to do so.

1 Reaction@carolreid Fantastic! I got my father started on palliative care, when he was suffering with congestive heart failure. I can't say enough about the intake session the palliative care MD at the hospital did with my father. It was one of the most beautiful conversations I've had the honor of participating in, as a listener. Many people wait too late to receive the benefits of palliative care and hospice care and regret that they did not take advantage of palliative care sooner. I wish your husband and you the best during this time.

3 ReactionsSo sorry this is happening to you. After 6 years I am sure you are at your wits end!!!
Is your wife on meds to calm her?
My mom was very aggressive. After almost a year of her thinking someone was going to kill her in her sleep, we finally got into a psychiatrist--waiting list was long. Psychiatrist prescribed Rexulti .25 mg. to see how my mom would respond. After a few weeks my mom started to calm down--was less accusatory, angry, verbally abusive, and less delusional. Then the psychiatrist upped her dosage of Result to .5mg. She is much better to deal with now. We are so grateful for this medicine because we feared her accusations that someone had come into her room and stolen her shoes or earrings, or that her threats of violence toward us and verbally abusive rants might worsen without any medical intervention.
Perhaps you can speak with her primary doctor and possibly get in to see a psychiatrist who can help you get your wife some help.
Blessings and big hug to you for hanging in there. This is not an easy role to fill. Get into a support group if you can. Keep us posted.
