What was your experience on Kevzara?

Posted by healthy56 @healthy56, Sep 14, 2024

I am curious about other’s experience with KEVZARA. I am currently taking 11 mg of Prednisone, down from 60 mg in April 2024. I am continuing to experience pain and stiffness daily, especially in the late evening and the morning. I am also fatigued most days. I am on an anti-inflammatory diet, walk daily and do a little restorative yoga. My Rheumatologist suggests going back up to 12.5 mg but I do not think that will be helpful as it will only lengthen the time I am on a drug that appears to not be helpful. She has suggested KEVZARA and we are now waiting on approval from my insurance company. My questions are: should I wait a bit and stay at 11 mg to see if anything changes (I have been on this dose for 4 weeks) before I start KEVZARA? Is it too soon in my treatment to start a biologic? It seems as tho my autoimmune system is not responding to the Prednisone or maybe I need more patience? My doctor was vague on these questions. Thank you in advance, I really appreciate this forum!

I'll need the luck. My rheumatologist still has not sent in the script for my kevzara, which he was supposed to do last Thursday. I'm thinking of finding a new one.

@kjoed53 oh so oooo unfortunate.
We live in so much discomfort, and their staff is probably overwhelmed and doesn’t feel the individual patient need.
My first option would be go into the office and stand there. I’m Taurus the Bull.
And yes, meantime look for another Dr.

Not 5 minutes after replying to you, my rheumatologist office called me. The receptionist was very upset thinking she messed up until I told her that it was the part time receptionist who I spoke with last week and again on Monday when I went to the office to pick up some other paperwork. She was the one who didn't pass the Cigna information to the doctor. I've had two calls since and a message in my patient prescription portal that the script was finally sent to the specialty pharmacy. I'll make sure the doctor knows that I'm not happy when I see him in 3 weeks. It's a very busy office and the part time receptionist is definitely not organized enough to multitask.

The injections hurt but 15 seconds and good to go. Question to Kevzara users? I took my mid month injection yesterday and today I am a physical wreck. Weak, sore all over, spacey in the head etc. I have had similar reactions since starting it three months ago but today takes the cake.

As long as you just stand there-that is okay and you don't charge like a bull.

Did you see the bison at Yellowstone National Park charge that 60 year old man and throw him 10 feet into the air??? The man survived with multiple broken bones and was in the hospital recovering. Emergency care givers arrived at the scene within minutes.

I worked as a nurse for 10 years while still having active PMR. Eventually, the pain got the better of me so I retired. I was a bear sometimes to my coworkers because of prednisone. I also had many demands placed on me from patients who didn't seem to appreciate that I was in pain too. I dutifully retrieved their pain medications as soon as I could. I understand the frustration with pain so I tried to make sure patients had what they needed. It seemed like every patient had many needs. I think we also need to cut health care workers some slack.

I had a rheumatologist tell me that he understood how I felt at one of my follow-up visits. I respected the doctor because he seemed very knowledgeable so I asked him how he knew so much. He said that he had the same autoimmune condition that I had. Then he said the visit was about me and not about him.

@dadcue that Dr is a KEEPER! Everyone need a Dr with your last line.
I have an orthopedic consultant Dr doesn’t operate anymore….she had it too.
That’s why no more surgery, but a great diagnostician. She helped with my PMR early on and sent me to Aqua PT…best thing ever.

I found sparingly using Mupirocin ointment 2% on all cuts, infections, bruises and other skin irritations has really helped keep all these as non issues and promoted fairly quick healing. I have been on Kevzara and off predisone for 3 years.

Yes. Me too.
My PCP prescribed it for me.
It works better than Neosporin for me.

You’re not the first. I’ve read that can happen. My first time was in January 2026, so I took it late in the day. One hour before bed. I was fine during that hour and had no problem falling to sleep. I figured if it made me tired, it would be best to take at bedtime. Worst case scenario, I’d die in my sleep.
(Sort of just kidding)
The next day I felt fine.
I still take it in the evening, 12 injections later, just in case. I am tapering off, so the last 2 injections were 3 weeks apart instead of the normal 2 weeks.
I’ve had days like that but not Kevzara related and I always reflect back on the past few prior to it. I ask myself if I’m certain that you had done nothing differently the day before? Physically, foods, supplements, snacks, bed time?
Have you been around a lot of people, germs?
Good luck with it. Wish good health to you. Let us know if you rebound.
