Can Dementia, if caught early, be reversed or slowed down?
Can dementia if caught early be reversed or is the symptoms be managed early slowing down the progression? I felt the speaker gave false information hence false hope and/or made loved ones feel guilty for not knowing and advocating for their loved ones early…

2 ReactionsFalse. Some available (approved) drugs may slow progression (difficult to measure accurately) but nothing so far reverses the dementia.

That's true of controlled scientific human trials so far. There is however reason for hope from the 2025 Harvard mouse study and its associated established science on the relationship of Lithium and human dementia. If you haven't heard of it, I humbly suggest reading about Lithium Orotate. If you're aware of any downsides or side effects please share on the topic I've just started here on Mayo Connect or the other excellent topic started here by @pb50.

3 Reactions@joycel10 Joyce I'm no doctor but I have a horribly bad stomach too. I'm not on lequembe, however, my husband is. Based on what the gastro told me, I purchased over the counter at CVS - a plant based fiber powder called Benefiber, (a teaspoon daily in coffee, and/or water, or tea, or cereal, etc. that helps with my stomach, It's tasteless, I put it in my coffee. It's worth asking your gastro about and/or trying it while you're on the infusions to help with your bas stomach. Best, Karla

I was told by my neurologist that it cannot be reversed but through diet, exercise and proper sleep it can slow the progression of Alzheimer’s. Also, there is Lequembi but I’m unsure about participating with this drug infusion because of possible side effects. Has anyone done the Lequembi infusions?
@kjc48 I use 1 teaspoon of Metamucil twice a day and it really helps, as per my gastroenterologist.
@joycel10 Did Lequembi reduce your amyloid plaque? Has your memory improved at all? What are the infusions like, any problems? I’m trying to decide wether to have them?
@plus It sounds interesting. I see my neurologist in October and will post if I find out anything. Please post if you find out anything.
