Caution about peppermint to reduce symptoms

Posted by mountainmarge @mountainmarge, Jul 5 12:58am

I've had autoimmune troubles for years and have had severe allergic reactions to medications, including all antibiotics now, so I've become afraid to take anything. However, with most of my troubles, I've found there's enough literature on subjects like candida, food allergies and such, that I can figure out my problem and find a natural remedy that helps. I haven't found doctors to be helpful with any of my problems yet and they're not helping with this COVID business either, so I'm trying to figure out a solution myself. A lot of herbalists are quacks, though, so you can't believe everything you hear. However, there might be some good common sense advice out there. Has anyone heard any. I'm researching now. I will post if I find any and it proves helpful.

It’s true about peppermint, we always thought that it helped with digestion issues but it can actually aggravate the symptoms.

@frouke I read that peppermint contains small amounts of caffeine. Those whom are caffeine intolerant should not mix peppermint in their tea. It can cause gas and indigestion. I no longer drink peppermint tea as I drink straight chamomile tea now with honey, no sugar. It helps me friend.

@mountainmarge There was nothing wrong with what you posted - quite correct, in fact. I was not disputing the benefits of peppermint tea - just saying it’s not … my cup of tea (pun intended)! 😀 As I said, I am weird - what’s good for others just doesn’t work for me. lol.

As for my distaste for peppermint anything … during my childhood my mother used to give us what we knew as peppermint water whenever we had an upset stomach and I hated it. I guess that is why I can’t stomach it now. 😀

@rashida Oh my..I thought I was the only weird one. Whatever works for another, the opposite works for me! For instance, I can't go to sleep until the sun comes out. (Some people call me Dracula) But there are many many other instances.

Well thank you. It's been 9 months since I got sick and for 2 days now I finally feel clearheaded enough to really start this research. (I've been forgetting what I was looking for.) My metabolism has been all wacky, can't absorb electrolytes, still need Pedialyte every day to keep my heart racing, but success! I found that Medicaid will cover that. That stuff has been costing me $7 a day. One problem solved. Now trying to figure out all the rest... Prayers back at you.

@mountainmarge Medicaid is great if you can qualify for it. My Mother was on it. We couldn't have managed otherwise. Maybe someday we all will have those benefits. A friend of mine got a script last week, and when he went to have it filled it was over $600. He didn't get it.

@truwomandi I tend to be a night hawk too! 😀 I get my best sleep from around 7:00 a.m. till noon. I do sleep during the night but intermittently, literally just taking nocturnal naps!

@mountainmarge isn’t Pedialyte an electrolyte too …? 🤔

@rashida
Yes, I said that wrong. My gut can't seem to break down food into usable vitamins and minerals. I eat the good food, but get little benefits from it. Pedialyte is already in a soluble form, so it's easily absorbed. My heart troubles showed me that connection. When I drank Pedialyte the trouble cleared up. But even when I eat the food high in electrolytes I still have the problems. Make sense?

@mountainmarge you are the only one living in your body so what makes sense to you is what really matters. No two bodies react the same way with any one thing. You have to do what you have to do.

I've gotten some help from NAD+ and N-Acetyl-Cysteine. 🙂

I don't know if this is revelent enough , but I seem to feel better if I get more salt. So I suck on salty sunflower seeds ( the hot taco flavored ones) when I feel my energy fading and a fatigue wave coming on. -Seems to help for awhile,
