C Scan and Pulmonary Function Test Timing of Each for Follow-Ups
Do you have the C Scan Test and Pulmonary Functions Tests the same day, different day, both close in time or months apart.
I am seeing a new pulmonologist and at this time the C Scan and Pulmonary Function tests are scheduled for months apart.
I ask because Dr. McShane always had me have the tests on the same day, just before my visit with her on the same day of the tests.
What have you been having per the way your follow-up C Scan and PFT are done time wise for the pulmonologist to review with you.
Any thoughts.? All thought will be helpful and food for thought.

I go to National Jewish at Mt Sinai in NYC. I travel there from central NJ so my doctor usually has my tests (PFT & CT-SCAN) done on the same day as a convenience to me. My appointment is following these tests, on the same day. He reviews my CT-SCAN and discusses it with the radiologist prior to seeing me at the appointment.

In my mind it would appear it would be best to have both tests at the same time for a full picture with sputum results for any possible decisions that have to be made at that time due to all needing to consider with ones condition and symptoms at that time.
I am going to have a discussion with the doctor about my thoughts to understand his thinking.

1 Reaction@blm1007blm1007 That's a good idea Barbara. In my clinic, CT scans are done in a different facility, so the scans are never the same day as my PFT or doctor visit. My doc orders them well in advance since they are a "routine test", which of course get lower priority in scheduling than emergency or urgent tests. Her clinic business manager explained that under their contract with the hospital, less is charged when it is handled this way - I'm all for saving some $$$, for me or the insurance company, by going along with their plan.
@sueinmn I agree with the 'saving money'.
In the end it will affect us financially if costs aren't kept down....in the way of premiums and deductibles that .... they ......tell us needs to be raised due to costs.

@blm1007blm1007 Barbara, I too am always scheduled for my CT several days before at an imaging facility, and my PFT’s are scheduled one hour before my appt with my Pulmonologist at his clinic located in the hospital. He does a thorough review with me of both, and compares them to the previous. Jeanne

Dr. Lippincott at Johns Hopkins Bronchiectasis Center wanted the visits separated by 2 weeks; CT first and then 2 weeks later Breathing Tests and Consult with him on the same day. I'll ask him in July why he insisted on having them at different times. Leslie

My pulmonary Dr. Always wants a CT coupe of days before I see him
@kimmiek ...I take it that he has both the CT and the PFT results on the day you see him and of course a recent sputum test result for a full up to date picture of how all is for you.
To me that makes more sense than spreading out the CT from the PFT...... as the new pulmonologist has it for now for me.
