Oral Lichen Planus
Hello
I have had OLP for many years. It always presented on the side of my tongue or inside my cheeks. In 2016 I got Clear Choice dental implants. I still get it on in my cheeks sometimes but now I get flare ups around my implants. Has anyone else had this and, if so, do you know if it is due to the material of the implant?

Amalgam fillings Made my oral lichen plant is much worse. At the Mayo Clinic 25 years ago about I had skin testing done and I had positive reactions to amalgams. I was told I should have them removed, and I did slow slowly as I could afford it. If I need something now, I get this ceramic (Mind Just what blank). Since I’ve done this, mine has been much better and I only use Tom’s strawberry, flavored fluoride, free children’s toothpaste..
I am starting to think that my body and other people’s bodies with Lichen Can’t tolerate all the chemicals that are being used today.

3 ReactionsI got tested with a dermatologist path for chemical allergies with skin testing. I am allergic to many of dental products including metals and Chemicals used in all bonding materials, crowns etc. porcelain and Zirconia are the only products I can put in fillings. Have not had any dental work since my diagnosis. My dentist is scared to do anything unless totally necessary.
My OLP started after I got a mouthguard for TMJ and grinding at night, and dental work to rebuild a cracked tooth. After another suggestion re: possible silicone reaction, I've stopped using the mouthguard. But now I'm curious whether the material used in the tooth repair may have triggered it. Where do I go to test this? Dermatologist?

I found the toothpaste called, Salvia. Flavia is very gentle on my gums and very effective at cleaning my teeth. Also, I use Closys a non-flavored, ultra- senstive mouthwash, which, when combined with the toothpaste, really helps make my mouth feel clean. I’ve been managing my oral Lichen Planus by using a red -light therapy and that has minimized the number of episodes of breakouts in my mouth. But I must stay away from any acidic or spicy foods which will bring back the painful mouth sores. Hope this helps?

3 Reactions@hem1959 I did chemical testing with a dermatologist pathologist. Also some immunologist allergists can do I believe. Teaching institution based physicians are the easiest to find these specialized physicians

1 Reaction@sassy1 Can you tell me more about the red-light therapy? Alos, where you buy that toothpaste and mouthwash? Thank you
@sassy1 I am glad that that is working for you..
For me, it would not work too many chemicals and I’m not sure about this light.
It’s been about five years or four since I had an episode of my oral lichen plants. I have not had any issues. I just have to make sure I use the water pick and brush my teeth with electric toothbrush. Then I got I make sure my dental floss has no flavor or color, and it is getting hard harder and hard harder to find things without dies and flavor
I wish you the very best and if that helps you keep on going
@sassy1 i too am using red light. Can I ask what you routine is? I just got my own ( was borrowing one that got hot) this one does not get hot. It meets the specs I read
Would be healing of the spectral bands 660nm +660nm +850nm . Does this sound right any input would be appreciated. Mine has never gone into remission, but I have seen improvement with my blisters going away( they just returned) my cheeks are always a mess! Thanks!
