Eliquis side effects

Hi I am new to taking Eliquis there are some things they are trying to rule out but nothing as officially been diagnosed. Reason is they want to make sure I don't form blood clots that may cause a stroke due to a TIA I had in July. I started taking and the medicine makes me feel anxious and some time nauseous. Does this fade away?

@plantskidsdogs I started getting horrific lumbar and hip pain and numbness in both legs and feet within days of being on Eliquis. The VA doctors were gas lighting me until I started ahowing them different forums from around the world and NIH studies. Im on this drug for life cuz I had a 2nd almost lethal PE a year ago. Eliquis saved my life but has also ruined it. I was on Xarelto for 6 months with the first dvt/pe and it was way worse.

I have been taking Eliquis for about 8 years now. Right from the start, I felt very dizzy, but my doctor dismissed it as Labyrinthitis, but I still have dizziness quite frequently. In the last few years, I have suffered from extremely stiff and painful joints. X-rays confirmed I have arthritis, but not bad enough to cause such pain. I reported this to the NHS Yellow Card scheme, but now I'm beginning to wonder if it's the statins I am also taking (Atorvastatin 80mg plus Ezetimibe 10 mg). I think it's time for a chat with my doctor!

I am now off Eliquis. The majority of the clots in my lungs (saddle pulmonary occlusion) were removed surgically. I also had two clots in my arm and one in my left leg which Eliquis removed, I was on Eliquis for six months on a double dose and because my doctors, were concerned I would fall, I am only now walking outside. Some which I think for me, were side effects are improving and vary from day to day, joint pain is the worst. Nausea and indigestion issues are improving. I am much older than most and normally hyper flexible which may be a factor. Wishing you better and better every day.

I’ve been on Eliquis since December 2024 And I have had painful joints in my knees, which started in February. I mentioned it to my cardiologist and she didn’t feel like it would give any side effects. I complained to my primary doctor and she ordered x-rays on my knees and said that I have arthritis, but I still believe part of it is caused by the Eliquis. The last time I saw my cardiologist, she mentioned that I might be able to get off the Eliquis in December, which means I was on it for a year. I have no idea what she will recommend me to take in its place.
I take the Eliquis twice a day, 5 mg in the morning and 5 mg at night.
It’s sad, but it’s also good to hear Other people are having the same issues being on Eliquis.

Unfortunately, I have been told that I need to take anticoagulants for life now, so there's no question of stopping it. I had a severe stroke in 2005 and was put on Warfarin, with no side effects whatsoever. My doctor seemed very keen for me to take Eliquis - I was put on the same dosage as yourself, 5 mg morning and the same at night. I mentioned my stiff and sore knees to my doctor and I was sent to a physiotherapist, but she was completely baffled by the cause of my pain and referred me back to my doctor, who has now referred me for an MRI scan, which I am still waiting for, so he clearly isn't convinced Eliquis has those side effects. I think, if enough of us start to make a fuss about this, we might be able to get this problem investigated properly. I'm guessing that you live in the US and, here in the UK the NHS has what is called the Yellow Card Scheme, where anyone taking a certain medication can report their side effects so these can be added to the list of side effects which come with the medication. I have already done this but don't know if there is anything similar is the US?

When I first started taking Eliquis around 2017, I immediately felt nauseous and very dizzy. Concerned it could be caused by the new medication, I went to my doctor. He dismissed the dizziness as Labyrinthitis (which I have had now and again in the past), and he advised me to stick with the Eliquis. Now, 8 years on, I still feel dizzy quite often and I have had a number of falls because my balance is affected, some quite nasty ones. The doctor said I clearly have a problem with balance, but doesn't seem to think it's the Eliquis because it's "not on the list of side effects"! So, to answer your question, No, I'm sorry, but it doesn't fade away. I now creep along with my stick very warily because I'm absolutely terrified of falling again. I think it might help if people who suffer these horrible side-effects report it as much as possible in the hope that this drug is investigated more thoroughly, and the side effects we suffer with should be added to the leaflet accompanying this medication. I should add that I was taking Warfarin from 2005 after a severe stroke and recurring PEs yet, despite it being considered a 'poison', I never had any side effects whatsoever!
