Eliquis side effects
3 months ago I had a blood clot removed from my Mesenteric artery.
I have been on eliquis 3 months, I am having leg pain, weakness, and I am fatigued. Do all blood thinners make people tired and weak?

Sometimes I wonder if the introduction to these meds are too strong, and repetitive.
10 mg twice a day is not doable for every patient, and it seems all of us are experiencing dizziness, nausea, and excruciating pain. Perhaps a patient review board, which would allow
medication issues to flow through CDC, prompting a more intense study of these drugs may help. Medical care is slowly becoming sick care - highly profitable.

I don’t understand why your doctor would think it would only take three days for the side effects to go away. That’s ridiculous.
My main side effect are my legs. I feel like I’m walking on wooden legs and that’s what makes me feel so tired..other than that I would feel pretty good so I’m hoping the end of December when I stop the Eliquis and I can stop a couple of the other meds that I’m on
I can start seeing a difference in how I walk in a few months, I don’t expect it to be in just a few days. It’s gonna take a while to get it out of your system.
Prayers for both of us and anybody else thats suffering with side effects from medication they have to be on. Hang in there

3 Reactions@ruth36 The reported 'half-life' of apixaban is 12 hours. plus or minus for individual variation based on their liver's ability to metabolize the drug. This means the level of the drug still in circulation should be down to less than 1% inside of four days, and essentially untestable in six days. Leaving another week for the body to regain its equilibrium or to repair any real tissue degradation, or to deal with inflammation caused by the drug, whichever it is that one would assume has caused the unwelcome changes, it should not take months to feel better after stopping a drug with a short half-life like Eliquis. I would begin to suspect, if it were me, that there's something else afoot about two weeks after ceasing any drug. Another drug, a pathogen, age-related deterioration that was 'due' about now anyway, etc.
In any event, I do hope you can claw back your old self, whatever it is that has made you miserable. None of us posting here wants that because many of us have had something like that in their experience. It ain't fun....at all!

1 Reaction@ccorn thats how I found the clots from weird leg pains, I still have it in the left thigh but Dr. can’t figure out why. I took myself off of Eliquis and was put on Xarelto. I was thinking the dizzy/lightheadedness was coming from Eliquis but I stopped Xarelto too and still feel that way. Drs. can’t figure it ou!

2 Reactions@lyndajo17 why don’t you try Xarelto? Ask your doctor
I have been on Eliquis since my cardiac ablation on 2/24. No side effects except itching which is annoying but dealable. Good luck, my friend.
@gabriig
Because it’s that time of year when us older folk need to do some research on our supplement Insurance for the upcoming year I Asked if I could get an earlier appointment with my cardiologist NP (The appointment I had wasn’t until January. So I was lucky they had a cancellation and I was able to go in yesterday and was told that my cardiologist Doctor Who Is on maternity leave still wants me to stay on the Eliquis after December although she did give me an alternative which would be going on cumitin In having to get blood work done every week for who knows how long. I looked that up on the Internet to see any side effects, etc. with that besides the blood work I would need to be careful some foods that I eat such as green leafy veggies and I wouldn’t be able to take aspirin in a couple other medication’s so for the time being I decided I’m gonna stay on Eliquis even though it is really expensive and I’m not looking forward to find out what my cost will be starting in January since my prescription plan has a $615 deductible for Eliquis.
I did mention to the NP Yesterday that I had x-rays on my knees I told I have arthritis, but I told her I still think part of it is a side effect from the Eliquis, which she didn’t believe it would have that side effect stiffness in my legs and very hard to walk. She thought if any med it would be the cholesterol one that I’m taking. I didn’t even bother to tell her about this male clinic site and how I’ve read other people are having issues on Eliquis with their knees and legs.. I just don’t seem to want to listen
So I’m wondering if there’s anybody out there that maybe went from the Eliquis to doing the
cumitin And what if any side effects they had with that..
@ruth36
Sorry for all the typos. I should’ve read it before I actually sent it.😉

1 Reaction@ruth36 Sorry, I can't help with that one. I have been off Eliquis for about two months now and for the most part most of the side effects have not gone away and knee pain is has me walking at a hobble. I will see my doctor in a couple of weeks, but he felt from the beginning that the nausea and dizziness could not be attributed to Eliquis. At six months after it was prescribed It was stopped immediately. wishing you well in your journey for answers.

1 Reaction@ruth36 Interesting comment. Thanks. I am on Eliquis and have no knee problem. Knock on wood I don’t get it. I walk every day for at least 40 minutes. If I miss a day, I make it up. Seems to keep knees in shape? Maybe anyway.
