How long do side effects from statins last once you stop taking them?

I have been taking 20mg of Lipitor for almost 2 years and have felt yucky since shortly after starting. My cardiologist allowed me to go off one week and I did not see a difference. He also cut back daily to three times a week. I ache all over - neck, back, hips, knees, elbows, and legs are weak. Recently had a normal CK test, but PCP said we might consider a trial off statins since I am below 200 now. Has anyone stopped taking statins and saw a significant decrease in muscle pain, and if so, how long did it take?

Were you told, to gain your consent, that Athletes were the overwhelmingly number one cohort to experience statin muscle aches?
The rationale is simple.
The number one side effect of both statins and athletic (not walking the dog) level exercise is muscle aches.
Therefore, are not the 2 contraindicated?
See the landmark 2004 Sinzinger and O’Grady Athletes and Statins study which proves the above.
After I found that I researched and found 75 more.

I was on 20 mg Lipitor and could not raise up in bed without grabbing something to help me raise up. To try and drive was excruciating and impossible to turn my head. I felt like I had a crick in my neck. I have never hurt that bad. I was 70 at the time and decided that I would stop all medication one at a time until I found the culprit. I was the statin. within a week of stoppingit I was back to norma. My Dr. said lower the dose to 10 then 5 but the same horrible pain happened. I refuse to take any statin for the rest of my life. Im 75 now

So, you know there are different statins with different chemistries, and there are injectables with the same positive effects as oral statins?

I have read numerous summaries of folks who could take one due to side effects, but that had no side effects from another.

A blanket approach with meds may not be in your best interest.

Yes I tried Lipitor, crestor, ezetimibe or something like that and all caused crippling pain as well as others. Not ever dong it again

I have taken all doses from cutting a 5mg into and I will never take it again. It was not worth it.
