Workplace Violence Hurts.....It Almost Ended My World

Posted by @roxie43 in Brain & Nervous System, Apr 13, 2012

Do you know of someone who has been made to feel worthless by a boss, company,or a culture; that promotes and rewards cruelty to human beings?

Do you think it's o.k. to go to work, work hard and be intentionally hurt by workplace bullies who abuse their power?

Just like bullying in classrooms/schools is leading to bullycide's and a host of psychological issues for our youth, adults in the workplace across the world are also suffering.

Workplace, discrimination and retaliation (if you report the sometimes unlawful behaviors):
Robs an individual of their self worth, causes enormous amounts of stress, exacerbates pre-existing health conditions, can limit one's career growth, results in the hard work one does not being recognized and can also include defamation of character, slander, hostile and unhealthy work environments and even SUICIDE!

Sometimes the behavior can be subtle but the abuser knows exactly what he or she is doing. Often the abuser is manipulative and convinces individuals who they perceive as weak to do the dirty work for them so when the behavior is finally reported they are protected.

*****Please visit; http://www.change.org/petitions/workplace*****

Please sign this petition and together let's put an end to a behavior that should never be accepted nor encouraged.

I welcome your stories and I also thank you in advance

Hi My story is all to familiar with many. My Husband started out as a Printer at 15yearsold. He worked his way through and went back to study to further his qualifications when we were married. So proud of him for doing this, all to improve himself. As the years went on he became head of the printing field., and trained apprenticesHe then had the opportunity to work in the office quoting. He was now in the management sector. such an acheivement. However, let the nightmare begin. A new upstart of 40years old no expereince just a piece of paper from University entered and the mayhem began. In three years four people left after working for the comapny for 20 years. Nige was the last to leave, Everyday he would go in and be pressured, put down, made to work excedling long hours. I had never met more of a self centred SOB excuse me for this in all my life, An example was tickets to a race car event everyone received one , Nige was told to work. May sound minor but it;s not it showed a total lack of qppreciation. He was verbally abused everyday. How he kept going I will never know. I can still remember the phonecall. Nige rang and he had had a total breakdown. He was saying sorry to me for letting me down. The tears ran down my face and still do when I think about it. I immediately rang my Mum and My dr. I know had the fight to save Nige to keep him with me. He was heavily medicated, I kept him home, nutured and loved him back , held him while he cried, told him it would be okay. Three months it took, before everyhting turned around. Life is good for him know, he is An aged care worker like me and a wonderful one too. As for the creep that did this to everyone. He left the company and is no doubt causing destruction to other people.
Remember my dear friends, stand up for your rights don't be abused, if you can take action.do If we don;t voice our opinions this disgusting behaviour and bullying will continue. Love to all Piglit

Hi
You're right it's very wrong but unfortunately our world has cruel people in it. Tell your husband to contact the local human rights commission and file a complaint. However, be aware that the emotional torture can become even more intense because workplace bullies hate it when the one being victimized reports unlawful practices.
I did not let them stop me regardless but the maltreatment eventually took it's toll and made me very ill.
Tell your husband to be strong and document document document!
In the end, if it didn't kill me it made me want accountability all the more. I also believe in karma and in the end people who intentionally hurt other human beings and cause someone so much pain that the person felt broken and demoralized it's only a matter of time before the wrong person is targeted
Take care and thank you for sharing.

Some people want to be feared and don't respect anything including laws. Despite how I've been hurt I feel pity because one must truly be filled with hatred instead of love.
I pray for such people
They really need it

You are not a bully Momentum. There's a difference because you have shown your empathy and compassion to so many of us. The type of person I speak of is heartless, reckless, a control freak and will go to any lengths to crush another who dares to assert themselves.
Although I'm assertive I didn't stand a chance when the bully manipulates others into justifying the behavior.
You are honest and passionate about your beliefs but you are not heartless
And, like Piglit, your ability to make us laugh is a gift.

No way in the world Momentum are you a bully of any sort. You show us everyday how much you care. And the way you make us laugh Rox is so right it is a gift and brings us so much joy. You know I have to mention this little bit. When you said that you dont take s..t from anyone. Well when my beautiful son went through the bullying and it was immense. I told him those exact words. He know does.nt take s..t from anyone stands up for what he belives to be right and eventually has gained strength through this and developed into a finer young man than he already was. I told him say the way you feel, stand up to what you belive is right. The scars may stay deep but at the end of the day, the challenges he faced head on.Piglit

Every time I hear of another story like mine I cringe.
I'm going to become a lobbyists one day because what was, has and is being done should be considered "CRUELTY TO HUMANS"!
I'm sorry you are experiencing the same thing. It hurts to the core that such people even exist.
Please take care of yourself first and foremost and if you are not receiving counseling please seek some help.
To have one's spirit broken in the workplace has many consequences including horrible thoughts that invade our minds.
Although horrible to say, you are not alone and its absolutely horrible that anyone in any country should have to endure what we have endured.
Kindly & here if you need guidance,
Rox

This happened to my friends husband. He quit a good job because he could not cope with the abuse. Why do you think this is allowed. He found another job but it took time because the employer continued to abuse him with bad recommendations. He had a pal call for a reference and recorded his boss making false statement. Needless to report he is suing that person.
This is depressing. I agree this is wrong

H i China sorry that your friend's husband went through this, Mine did. It unfortunately continues as people need to speak up, take action . In my husband's case it went too far and he had a breakdown. I blame myself in many ways I should have realized. I'm glad he is taking action. Wish him luck from me. Take care piglit

Yes it's very wrong and I'm glad your friends are getting legal advice. I used to think my case was an isolated case until a colleague who transferred to another facility told me that he too was being targeted.
He also told me his health has been impacted. I wish more people had a heart like my friends here.
Rox

It sure would make a difference wouldn't it/ Unfortunately sometimes it's hard for people to speak out, because there health has been to affected to be strong enough to do it In Nigels case he just had to leave and was to unwell to fight a very unjust situation.

roxie43

Posted by @roxie43, Apr 18, 2012

So sorry Nige's health was also compromised and that he could not attempt to hold the abuser accountable. Let him know that although he may not be in the workplace nor around this bully anymore one day if it has not already happened that person that was cruel to him most likely did the same thing to someone else and that person fought for his or her rights to a healthy work environment. We may not always be around but I have faith that those who intentionally hurt human being's one day are stopped in their tracks.

You know what the saddest part of all my discussion is? My employer is funded to treat disadvantaged populations with chronic mental illnesses. As I prepare to go out I'm reminded of the increasing number of blinding headaches I endured after my ECT.
I have taken my Imitrex and Soma but it's not going away.
ECT saved my life. I'm humbled and grateful but Remeron was all I needed until I became a sitting target.
On a positive note, the judge in my case has granted me online filing which makes things on me easier because the case was transferred to another US District Court. Wondering if having to now deal with this process is causing me anxiety.
Talk to all later.

A bit too close to home for me with a son removed from school due to bullying issues. No one deserves to be abused and no one has the right to do it. Very passsionate about this as you know.

I am passionate about it as well. It happened to me from elementary to the 6th grade and one day I was fed up and fought back. I was never bullied again. I have my favorite aunt to thank for that. She told me to stand firm even if I was petrified and let the older girls know I was fed up and so I did. After that, they wanted to be my friend.
As an adult, who has witnessed other adults being bullied and have also experienced it until it incapacitated me, I am extremely passionate about abuse of power and intentionally hurting human beings. You know what is sad? I am a humble and sensitive person and if I ever l felt like I had hurt someone without intent I quickly apologize. Can you believe that these bullies even us my apologies against me? One time I apologized and then retracted it but the main bully did not show the proper authorities the retraction which I have to make me look like ....oh she's deserving of how we intentionally hurt her...look she's was apologizing. Totally, immature and sad.
I totally agree with you that NO ONE!!!!! deserves to be hurt and NO ONE Deserves PROTECTION when they hurt someone else.
Thank You Piglit.....

You know I was bullied at school and removed, put in another school and coped. When you said about apologizing, whenI contacted Nige's boss and told him he was resigining. He stated to be oh well I'm sorry. For heavens' sake this creep of a man had just taken a 32year career away from him. I found this unbelievable. and I was speechless as you can imagine.
