I read a really good and easy to understand questions and answers about viruses by a world-renowned virologist, Peter Piot. You can read or watch the Q & A session using the links below.

John, Thank you for sharing these links. I hope those who can are making plans now for future outbreaks of this and other viruses.

Peter Piot: "“We have to be realistic; this is a never-ending battle of humankind against viruses, don’t forget it’s a virus planet. But we are better prepared for the next epidemic when it strikes—that’s really important for us—and for that we need to be absolutely committed to build a global fire brigade I would say, long before the house catches on fire next time.”

But we haven't learned anything in 100 years. We were/are just as unprepared now as when the Spanish flu global pandemic struck back in 1918-19..

I hear you sentiment, Donnay. What good is history if we don't actually learn from our mistakes...? Maybe this time....? We can hope and pray because virus experts report that viruses will always be with us. Luckily most are not harmful or as deadly to humans as this current COVID-19 can be.

I have to disagree. There is no way to be prepared for new viruses that haven’t even occurred yet. But, all these amazing epidemiologists and scientists have deVeloped vaccines for multiple types of flu, measles, mumps, rubella, chicken pox, polio and more. I am so grateful to all of them - beyond words grateful. What is amazing to me is that humans are even alive with all the virus and bacteria out there Working to get us !!
I also recommend Dr. Peter Piots’ book “No Time to Lose”. It is an amazing story of a man who has devoted his life, as a brilliant epidemiologist, to fighting for human lives.

Agree 100%. I would add, "the folks who make up our American Society, need to be rational and deep thinking as they prepare for the next election". ,,, What is needed is sound mental and emotional leadership.....always, not just at times like this. I am 91 years old and an Amy Vet. and a retired Psychologist. My statement is non-political......it is just
God Given common sense. Thank you, Dr. Tom

Your statement is political. Political comments ok here? I didn’t think so. .[...] Thanks for your service, though.

Thank you @tzahnphd, for your much appreciated Army service to our country. In your professional capacity, I am sure there are many who learned to manage their lives much better because of your counsel. Regardless of any political position and despite how many national issues divide us as a nation, I whole heartedly believe that only as our country unites in working to bring this virus under control can we as a nation once again begin resuming a more normal way of life.
