Traveling with a TAA and valve issues
Hello. I have a 4.6 CM ascending aortic aneurysm and a 4.5 CM root aneurysm. Also, one of my aortic leaflets is immobile. Only two are working. And I have “severe regurgitation“. But, I have no symptoms and walk between 3 to 4 miles daily and use lightweights. My daughter lives in Europe and my son lives in Michigan. I live in New York. Has anybody heard of any restrictions on traveling/flying short or long distances. I did an AI search and it said don’t travel anything over four hours. But I want real life information. Can anyone offer what they’ve experienced or heard from their doctors? Thanks.

Let me add to the above questions that I’m also 71 years old.
@cdt55... Hello....welcome to this informative site! I have had a thoracic aneurysm for many years and during that time traveled extensively for work, both domestically and internationally. I was only diagnosed about 7 years ago, but have continued traveling, a majority by air, and for lengthy periods. I'm currently 71yo. I've not been told to eliminate travel by any medical professional, particularly air travel. The usual caveats apply, making sure you're sufficiently hydrated, moving about when able on the airplane....or at least stretching/flexing leg muscles to avoid DVT's, and abstaining from alcohol. Keeping blood pressure in a low normal range also helps. That's about it. You should continue to enjoy life as much as possible, and staying connected to family and friends! I was diagnosed about 2 years about with a 4.1cm TAA. I too like to travel and my cardiologist has said it is safe to do so. To easy my mind, I purchased a global medical emergency transportation insurance policy from EA+ (Emergency Assistance Plus) that covers transportation home after hospitalization from anywhere in the world including air ambulance service. It will also cover a round trip airline ticket for a family member/loved one to be by your side while you are hospitalized and many other useful services. A link to their website is below.

@eawarl Hi, thanks for the response. I currently have a subscription to Medijet. That expires in November. I’ll look into the one that you suggested EA+. I’ve used Global Rescue before when my daughter was traveling through Asia in South America. They were very good and helped her when she got sick and when she broke her toe. They were very responsive. They’re a bit pricey though. Thank you again.
